Maybe ITV will have it as a phone-in quiz type thing. Guess who's won for each one. I dunno.

Here our two councils are counting the next morning, not sure how commonplace this is - but I'd assume pretty common which won't help overnight shows. But good news for those of us covering it Smile

The May Local Elections are in England only I believe, so BBC in Scotland, Wales and N Ireland will have their own programming no doubt.

Radio Times says...

Scotland:
10:35 Question Time (as network)
11:40 Joins BBC News 24

Wales:
10:35 Dragon's Eye
11:05 Question Time
12:10 Election Night

NI:
10:35 Question Time
11:35 Hearts and Minds
12:10 Medium (Tuesday 2nd's episode)
12:50 Election Night

Looking at the interactive election map on bbc.co.uk, as well as the nations not having any election, only around half of England is having one

Practically all of the Anglia, Westcountry and Central East regions arn't having any elections this year

Therefore it's all turning out to be not much of a big event this year

Might look that way geographically, but actually these are quite big. All the seats on all 32 London boroughs are up for re-election, as are a third or in some cases half of the seats on the big city metropolitan borough councils like Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham, unitary authorities and shire district/borough councils, plus there are a few direct mayoral elections.

i've never seen the point in a national programme for local elections. the beeb ought to provide regional coverage (not 5 minute opt outs) of the counts. the beeb already have network teams at the major counts, with the regions usually deploying a couple of teams within their area, so why not atleast extend the opt outs to allow some meaningful analysis. its no good seeing dimbleby in london spending hours asking experts how the results reflect upon the government, as thats only one aspect of the results.

no doubt the media will wheel out the "voter apathy" story on the day after, neglecting to mention the meagre television coverage they themselves have given to the campaign and the results.

i hope we will all be glued to our tellys for the result from church ward in bury, where tv forum's very own .... benjamin francis shatliff is standing

The Daily Politics are using the large circular desk that was used for Budget 2006, instead of the normal smaller one. They did the same in the same week as Budget 2006; likely to save time when redressing the set for Budget 2006. So it looks like Election Night will be coming from the Millbank studio rather than TC1 at Television Centre, which was used for the last local elections in 2004.

You'll probably be aware of this by now TVM, but Pat Burns did mention tonight that apart from regional updates on Thursday evening, the network bits, as well as Goldie's slot, is all coming from Brum on Sunday's Politics Show. (Will Goldie & Pat Burns be included in the network bits as well?)

(By the way I forgot to ask, is Goldie giving up The Politics Show as well as WM, as it hasn't been mentioned?)
