This time of year always gets me laughing. All the money that the BBC spent on it's new logo in 1997, and they had it all along in the Children in Need logo....

Can anyone remember how much the letters B, B and C in three boxes cost them?

I'm pretty sure the lettering on the CIN logo was previously in a different font, and only changed to Gill Sans to match the new BBC logo after 1997.

EDIT: Just found a ropey copy of the old version...

Point taken tho'.

At least £5million, plus another £500,000 for the balloon idents shot during the summer of 1997.

True, just the font by my reckoning (although there seems to be a slightly larger smile on little Pudsey...).

Anyone remember the Children In Need Logo from before 1985? I seem to remember it as a cartoon bear (possibly not known as Pudsey) with the B B & C in white on his 3 black buttons! It was displayed in an oval around the set.

(PS The current C.I.N. logo is sometimes displayed with Multi Coloured blocks!).

This was the CIN logo used up until 1984:

There were no cartoon bears until Pudsey arrived in 1985, although for the first year he did indeed have the letters BBC on three buttons, and a distinctly less happy expression than he has now!

The actual design itself didn't cost £5 million.

The main cost was the implementation of the branding: replacing the signs, graphics and the like. Although in the long term they've clawed back some of that as savings - the old logo had 4 colours rather than the 1 colour of the current one

And anyway - the Balloons were worth it.

A mate of mine (Hi Laurence if you're reading!) thinks it should be changed to this:

On the disability side, nobody's asked us if we want Terry and Co pratting around on our behalf!

A bit late in the day, Katherine.

It's been Wogan in Need for years, see the EastEnders thread.
