will you be sitting in a bath of baked beans this year nick?

No, Mr VAT Crime, I shall avoid it like the plague, as I always do.

I've been saving three hours of tape from a couple of weeks back, a programme called Lawless, for tomorow night.

I shall sit back in my newly purchased DFS leather armchair, with a fairly reasonable Cotes-du-Rhone Villages, and enjoy it.

I will be as far away from the television as possible!

This was the CIN logo used up until 1984:

There were no cartoon bears until Pudsey arrived in 1985, although for the first year he did indeed have the letters BBC on three buttons, and a distinctly less happy expression than he has now!

Yes, of course - I do remember that logo!

I see now, the 'blocks-less Pudsey with BBC buttons' was in 1985, then 'Pudsey on the blocks' from 1986 onwards.

I've just been into the BBC's CIN website and spotted this:

Look above Terry's head... there's the oval logo I was talking about! However, by the looks of it, that seems to be the 'kids logo' as above.

Don't suppose anyone has an image of Pudsey with his BBC buttons...

I'd like to think that the Beeb might repeat some clips from the early 80s shows to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the TV telethon (the appear began in the 1920s)... but I seem to recall that they don't have or never recorded the early ones. I know it wasn't a full-night programme until the late 80s, but it would be nice to see the early stuff...

(A picture taped into a scrapbook for the past 19 years hence manky sellotape marks!)

CIN first became an all-night extravangza in 1984 or possibly 1985 at the latest, before which it was interwoven between the night's programming - indeed, in 1983 ninety minutes was taken up by 'The Five Doctors'!

There were some clips of early Children in Need shown on a BBC4 programme last year about the history of charity television, and it looked as though the clips from 1981 were sourced from VHS tape. I took a couple of captures from that programme for my website (the first image is from 1981, the second circa 1984):

The actual original Pudsey Bear itself used to live on a shelf at BBC Leeds when I worked there. Unlike the on-screen version, he was actually proper bear-coloured brown rather than yellow! Other than that he looked very similar to the 1981 picture above.

On the disability side, nobody's asked us if we want Terry and Co pratting around on our behalf!

Terry Wogan is not in need, he likes helping!

Yes - but the way the show portrays and deals with the 'children with disabilities' bit really does p*ss me, and a lot of disabled people off....

would they rather people kept their money in the pocket? would people still have sufficient exposure to the children in need if it was just a wall-to-wall guilt-a-thon? i know id rather watch corrie and frost then i'd forget to donate owt.

I have been told there will be new pudsey animations this year for the telephone number etc.

My 2D Animation Tutor was hired to do them, unless he was talking about something else, he wasnt too clear lol.

From a preview thats been running on News 24 today, they've shown animation things with Pudsey doing the skidding and running, etc like the past couple of years, except he's wearing the birthday hat and seems to be coloured with a gradient rather than just yellow, though these may not be used tonight, but I presume they will.
Also on one of the monitors as they prepared the pre recorded charity films, they had a jigsaw puzzle animation into the film.

I wonder why they haven't created any 3D graphics. Surely in this day in age, they could have a 3D animating Pudsey, even if it's just a head or the full logo that's used as a wipe.

Also a new set this year, well i think it's new!
It's quite a nice set, from the looks of it, they've got a screen at the back of the main stage, and a screen above it. The stage looks higher with the audience up close to the stage. It should be a good show!

I think that 2D graphics look better than 3D graphics personally, and I especially liked the set they used for the last couple of years - a nice flat pudsey on a contrasting red background.

As a privledged resident of Pudsey, I am looking forward to the show.
