I know this has nothing to do with TV or presentation and I sincerely apologise for that. But I am pleading with everyone (and I am certain that the majority of us intelligent, literate and conversant contributors to this forum will agree) to put a stop to the really annoying "Text Spelling" and extremely bad spelling and illegible use of words within this forum. I don't mean to be arrogant, antagonistic or bolshy, but it really degrades the quality of the usually excellent forum that is TV Forum. It is great fun to comment and banter on daft opinions and views, that's what it is all about, but please, spell things correctly and write in English. I apologise to all moderators for launching this thread, but it is really annoying.
Theres a brillaint book, just published " Eats Shoots and Leaves" READ IT! Brillaint! For everyone who values to importance of the English Language.

Depending on whether or not the panda really should have ordered the sandwich in the first place that is!! The "stickler" panda is doing his best to remove the comma though!
However shouldn't the tag line on the front cover be hyphenated? 'The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation'. Surely it should read "zero-tolerance", not "zero tolerance", because surely the latter would imply having tolerance towards zeros ... wouldn't it??
I'm half-way through it and can't stop myself laughing out loud at parts!!
Anyway back to the notion of the thread, I also agree that you should not apologise for longing for the use of proper English. The idiot's have been in charge for far too long in my opinion.

You're exactly right, Captain: "zero-tolerance" is a compound adjective describing the noun "approach" and therefore deserves a hyphen.
Nevertheless, I agree wholeheartedly with this thread, and wish everyone would write in complete sentences with capitals and proper grammar. I applaud Asa's action in closing that thread, and will do precisely the same given the opportunity. I hope nobody minds if I make this sticky for a bit, and edit the title as a reminder for everyone.

Young people these days, coming here, talking their funny language, with all their cheek and their young people's noise. It was all different when I was alive.
This should be the subject for one of those ITV morning news text polls, the people who vote in them are so right-wing you'd have them all up for a brutal punishment -- "Should illiterate TVF posters be beaten with a stick until they are sorry?"
I'm sure Owen would be happy with the overwhelming yes votes for that. Mind you, it's the same every morning.
I vote yes to that question TVD - as long as they are beaten with the infamous
**** stick
then it cannot fail.
On a slightly unrelated note - I'm listening to Mojo on Freeview - never realised what a great station it was. Why did I just mention that here? I think I'm going mad...help me....
