Sorry , but most of the replies here are totally missing the point - to use "could of" instead of "could have" is obviously not a typo but an indication of the fact that the author has absolutely no idea what it is they are writing. What exactly do they think that "could of" means ?
Again the English school system is at fault - in the inner cities it is over-run with queers and fat lesbians who have no interest in correct usage -quite the reverse in fact. It reminds me of my friend who worked on a Nuclear destroyer who got posted from Southampton to Scotland - he said it was quite a shock to his boys to find that " Soufampton" was not the way that their home town was pronounced - but it took the Scottish education system to teach them that . What was wrong with the one in
Soufampton ?

I think your comment about "queers and fat lesbians" is a little controversial not least a little offensive. However, it pains me to admit it but there is perhaps an element of truth in your comments. We live in a world of total liberalism, a society where worrying about PC agenda and human rights of minority groups is more important than our own way of life. I am not saying that minority groups are not entitled to human rights, of course they are. But, when a school in my town by instruction of the local Schools Officer teaches children the Arabic alphabet in order to "gain more sympathetic and compassionate ideals to the Islam religion and a greater understanding of what it means to be a muslim". I'm sorry but what b.o.l.l.o.c.k.s. Teaching children a greater understanding of the English language and the culture and cultures of Britain is far more important. If these so called do-gooders actually cared about the ethnics etc. Then teaching them all and of course us the fundamentals of English language, the pronunciation of places and names and of course spelling, punctuation and English literature would be of greater importance to the country as a whole rather than converting us to understand a culture that we are never (or likely ever) to participate in. So you see, the education system today is at fault with the way things are spelt etc. It is more than just worrying about whether it is "could of",
"could have" or "could've". it is more about making people care about what they are writing and giving them the satisfaction of producing beautiful handwritten work. There, my ramble is over. Sorry if anyone was offended. It was unintentional.

What the hell has any of this got to do with a TV Forum? The 2 posts above are offensive and biggoted. What has being gay got to do with bad spelling? Will a moderator please deal with this, surely this sort of offensive posting should not be allowed on a web site about TV presentation and related items.

Hear, hear! (and yes, that is the correct usage)
Both the postings that pootle5 quote are also clearly written by people who have no idea about the amount of hard work that goes on in (most of) the education system to produce literate and numerate children, in spite of the many other influences that society brings to bear.
If they think they can do a better job than the teachers they seem to look down on (the huge majority of whom are very good and very dedicated in the work they put in), then perhaps they should train to be teachers and show them how 'it should be done'.

Neil, I have already apologised for causing any unintentional offence at the end of my last post. I do realise that this subject is not about TV and my comments were not highlighted to belittle the efforts of teachers or to discriminate against anyone or any other particular race. I was merely trying to highlight the reasons why so many people are unable to spell or use correct punctuation etc. I would also like to make it clear that my wife Preeti is Indian so therefore I am not nor will I ever be racist. Also until 2001, I was a teacher and spent 5 years of intense training and after being security checked, educated on children's welfare and rights etc. I finally began teaching at the age of 25. So from 1993 until 2001 I taught History and RE and have first hand experience at major changes in the way that certain subjects have to be taught now. I encountered racial abuse from Asian children because of the way Islam was taught and the way Christianity was considered a worthy topic. Hinduism and Judaism were hardly touched upon. So, I am afraid I do know what I am talking about. I left teaching because of continued red tape and the idea that we have 13 weeks a year off is not true at all.
If anyone found my remarks offensive I am sincerely sorry, but perhaps we have entered a bit of a "Kilroy" situation where truth is often a painful sound.
This thread was started as a plea to ask people to write in English rather than text language and often illegible sentences. It should not be used as you correctly state Neil, as a battleground for racial antagonism and if it is to become one then I will play no part in it. It would however be appropriate to state that everyone has prejudices, and as long as they are viewed in a constructive manner rather than an insulting one, then I see no harm. Someone will always find something offensive, that can not be avoided.
I will reiterate by apologising whole heartedly if anyone found my last post offensive. Please read it as it is written and not how it is apparently being interpreted.
Right ... I made this thread sticky as a service, but now am going to lock it because people are getting out of hand. I'm all for a bit of fun, but the comments above are taking the argument farther than it should go on TV Forum. If you want to continue this discussion, consider opening a new thread on Metropol.
The point stands, everyone, please take spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalisation into consideration when making your posts. Misuse of any or all of them can give people the wrong idea about what you're trying to say.
