I really like these landscape idents - MUCH better than celebrities. They are very BBC balloon-esque!
They're just not quite as good as the old balloon... for one thing they just lie on the ground rather than float across the landscape (which is far better!)

Indeed, but they are better than celebrities nevertheless!
I'm so chuffed my local beach (where i have so many happy memories) had been used for one of the idents!

Ohh yes I can see it now, four huge blocks floating majestically across the sky. Perhaps one getting caught in a tree, comes crashing to the ground and lands on top of a rabbit and goes scuttling off across the grass.
These idents really are superb. So simple but yet so effective - I don't think you can beat having a good ident featuring local images. Of course, in the age when ITV is ready to say goodbye to the regions once and for all - it's great to see these albeit only before local programmes.
And of course, many will agree that they're almost a bit too upmarket for the modern image of ITV - well I think that if they expanded the set and made these national then they could be on to a winner. A complete rip off of the BBC balloon idents perhaps, but I think that some of the locations chosen for these idents are fantastic and really do have a lot of potential.
Seeing as our London region is split between Carlton and GMG. Having not seen anything for London, do you think it will be ITV1 for London, and ITV1 for London At The Weekend? or is that too wordy?
GMG may have had bad taste in design terms, but at least they left some regionality, unlike Carlton Westcountry & Central, which just seemed to be Carbon Copies of London.
I disagree. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and being subjected to London based continuity over the past year has demonstrated just how good Westcountry's own continuity was. They really made an effort which just doesn't happen anymore. On the few occasions I watched Carlton London, it's continuity standards couldn't touch Westcountry.
In contrast, when watching GMG North or South, the continuity was always as dull as ditchwater and certainly didn't feel regional (what I always found odd is that HTV West's wasn't bad, despite coming from the same operation that provided continuity for Meridian and Anglia, and they were just as dull as GMG North).

Agreed 100% As a regional broadcaster ITV should be reflecting their presentation this way instead of endless screenings of 'celebrities'. Anyway, I reckon 'people idents' are getting really tired now.
Everyone living in these regions who share this opinion should contact Carlton and/or ITV and praise the new idents. Perhaps they'll extend them to other regions too (if they haven't planned this already).
