I’ve always preferred the score in the top right corner of the screen, but I guess the graphics along the bottom of the screen allow for more information.

There’s two feed as per usual English and Hindi there might be a third not sure, the graphics are nice from the host feed anything is better sky’s blocky graphics efforts, not seen channel4 yet.

The host graphics feel like a direct descendant of Sky News in 1996.

I can see that in them.
However, I'm surprised at how understated they are for Indian Cricket presentation.

Given the truly terrible 'info overload' of the IPL graphics with a selection box of font sizes, and numbers and three letter abbrevations all over the bottom bar at least with these you can find the score, batsmens score and bowlers stats, very quickly and very easily.

Still have the very unconvincing VR graphics overlays from the spidercam though. Could loose those and miss nothing.

The vr graphics are like the Supersport South Africa it was done in the Cricket World Cup in 2019.

By the way (because these dull questions won't leave me head!)
The grey and glass large 4 logo studio coffee table? Where's that been seen before? It has to have been in use on screen somewhere for S&V to request that it's brought out of the scenic storeroom.

Was it used pitchside for the Autumn Rugby International series they shared with Amazon Prime last November?

I also think the graphics are very clear at communicating the information. They have the advantage of using a double-height scorebar (unlike, for example, Sky Sports) which gives a bit more flexibility.

They've also been tweaking a few things since day 1, such as the active batsman indicator which has changed from gold to a (much easier to see) blue.

OK, some aspects look a little bit dated to our eyes, maybe there are a few too many glossy effects and animations, but overall it's a pretty strong package.

Yes, I'm not a fan of Sky's graphics at all.

How many languages is this broadcast in in India alone? I know they have multiple versions of Big Brother in different languages so I assume events like this would be shown in multiple languages too.

Why would they use a coffee table pitchside, when that style of pres would usually be done standing up?

It just looks like something that’s been put together at short notice to me and not something that would have been used on screen recently.

(last one showing C4's graphics matching the host ones pretty well)

Very unusual to see almost unanimous praise in this day and age but C4's coverage has been very well received, even if it is riding a bit on the nostalgia of 2005 at least.

A good podcast here with the last 15 minutes on the move to C4 back in 1999 through to 2005, but the whole thing may be of interest focusing on how cricket has evolved on TV over the decades.

I'd also recommend listening to the full extended Mark Nicholas interview (which is across two parts) - loads of wonderful stories from the great man.

I registered just to ask this question, having leafed through this interesting thread!

Why aren’t C4 using the little sample from Mambo No 5 heading into and out of the break? Are those sections provided by the host broadcaster?

Apologies for the layman’s terms!

As an aside, couldn’t be happier to see cricket back on C4. I think the power of FTA, and especially that 2005 Ashes, on kids at the time - including myself - has long been hugely underestimated. Anecdotally, the small Nottinghamshire village I grew up in had four teams and a field full of kids on a Thursday wanting to get involved until that crop petered out in 2010/11 or so down to a single team and no youth setup as of 2018 or so.

Shame not to see Mark Nicholas but can’t complain one bit about the guys in the studio. Very tidy and great insight.

Hope we get more from C4 going forward. Would love to see a crack at a fuller production in future with a commentary team of their own.

Cheers all!

Timings, sufficient time in the break, as provided by the host broadcaster, for the ad content only, no room for 'extras'
