Two things from this morning that I found strange.
Heading towards 8am, there was less than 2 minutes between ad breaks, is that the shortest gap ever between the breaks? Then a bit later, Susanna gave the breaking news that the vaccine factory in Wrexham was being protected from flooding i and actually said that the water hadn't reached the factory, but the graphic on screen said 'Flooding hits vaccine Factory'!

And Piers was presenting on a Thursday. Is that a new thing?

I think it was planned for this week only following on from yesterday’s inauguration of the 46th president of the United States of America.

Correct. As the man himself said at least twice in the first half hour of the show, it was planned as today was the morning after the Presidental inorguration of the afternoon before.

... because it was important to have him be the one interviewing the Daily Mail and Mirror staff (Pierce and Maguire) about it rather than Ben Shepherd or anyone else... Rolling Eyes Wink

I expect he expected something to kick off, either with Trump supporters or by Trump himself not leaving graciously. So he had to be on hand to rant straight down the camera if required

Easy week for Susanna though, its only Thursday's she actually does anything

Yes, obviously it was a busy news day, but during my regular check-in in the half hour from 7am, the talk appeared to be almost exclusively about Trump which seemed to be rather misreading the situation. A glance of the papers and online this morning suggests that the bigger interest is what Biden's going to do, not what Trump has done. That feels like, literally, yesterday's news. There will certainly be opportunities to discuss Trump's legacy, but probably not the morning after the inauguration of his replacement.

One thing I will credit GMB for today, and I’m not sure what post 6:30 was like, but the 6am half hour did a good job of covering the floods/snow first. They led with Nick Dixon live in Greater Manchester on the flooding situation, then second live hit was Juliet Dunlop covering snow disruption expected in Scotland then thirdly was inauguration with a live link and report from Richard Gaisford and also report from Richard Arnold on the celebration/concert.
Sky and the BBC led at 6am with the US and while the inauguration is big news, it was nice that itv offered an alternative lead and I think that was a good call considering homes have been evacuated etc.
They also squeezed two live guests into the second 15 minute block, with Nick doing an interview on the floods from his OB and Kate doing one down the line on the inauguration.

Yeah as per usual whenever Piers is on, all Susanna seem to do was meditate between Piers and the guests if needed before interrupting Piers because they needed a break.

One thing I would say is that the next time GMB gets an update to the music, for the love of god can they get Sitting Duck (the people who have done the GMB themes) to create a longer bed as it seems to be repeated at least 2 or 3 times when trying to go into a break

That 6 to 6:30 GMB slot, is generally very good and useful. It's generally a better watch than the same period on BBC or Sky

A touching tribute on Good Morning Britain this morning, remembering the 100,000 who have died from COVID-19, along with a back story of just some of those individuals.
It was beautifully done. There was also a different bed with a slow violin and some piano keys, along with a black logo.

As ever, well done to the GMB team both in front and behind the camera over the last 10 months or so.

Very simple yet poignant, not to mention very emotional and powerful.
Well done to Erron and the whole team for this tribute and to the victims, may they all rest in peace.
