I've just watched Saturday Knight Takeaway, and feel like it has been shown before as a one-off special. I know there were a couple of specials a few years ago.
It's in the listings as "new". Maybe ITV are doing a Channel 5 and have repackaged it, or made an extended version.
Obviously last year's 'Men in Brown' sketches weren't deemed worthy of the repackaged / repeat treatment.
They might turn up in a couple of years. They really shouldn’t though, they were vastly inferior to previous ones. If they can’t do better than that they should stop doing them.
Thinking ahead to this year’s series, having any kind of audience in place by mid-February feels optimistic at best. Whilst the one off without an audience worked well last year, I don’t think you could do it every week, so there’s a problem there. Same goes for BGT, which have already pushed back their audition filming and surely won’t be able to tape for the foreseeable?
Going back to the Ideal Tat issues, it seems like technical problems with the website (and therefore the ability to purchase items) caused the late-minute pulling of the slot. No EPG change due to it being an ungodly hour.
Here's a bizarre Wikipedia page I've just stumbled on, which suggests every single one-off ITV programme of the last twenty years is part of a single series - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITV_Specials
They appear to have arbritarily decided that it began with a magic special in January 2000, and that Ant and Dec's DNA Journey is part of a series that also includes the Coronation Street Pantomime and Rhona's Rudest Home Videos. What a bizarre endeavour.
Perhaps someone might like to create a similar page for BBC Specials. "BBC Specials is a series that began in 1936. The first episode was Opening Of The BBC Television Service and the most recent was The Big New Year's Eve In with Paddy McGuinness."
