I must be the only one that closed my eyes and clenched when I just watched Sky News with the breaking news feature of Biden winning. Incredibly cheesy and embarrasing in my opinion. The BBC coverage was dry and they may not have utilised big name presenters but the story is not about them!

Oh I thought Sky's reveal of the winner of the election yesterday was very impressive, they considered the graphic design, lighting and small use of the Sky Centre to announce the winner.

Totally irrelevant, they weren't announcing an exit poll, anyone who'd been watching would know that the only feasible announcement was for Biden. A quick fanfare and 5 seconds of video and they'd be done. Overkill to the nth degree.

That maybe so. But I’d argue the magnitude of a new US President being elected is worthy of a bit of overkill. Certainly better than the BBC’s botched effort which felt like it was something they’d been repeating all day and that everybody knew the call had been made.

To be fair to Sky it probably would have felt less out of place if it had been called on the election night, when the momentum was still there. But I can see why they would still want to use it.

I didn't see it at the time, but find it incredibly tacky. None of the U.S. networks saw the need to make such a scene - it's not the X Factor final.

I think it worked, it was almost the same as all of their projections were, and they haven’t been criticised.

Great video linked in this tweet of the behind the scenes of sky news’ election coverage.

ABC and CBS both laid on special programmes for Joe Biden's victory speech.

NBC, however, just broke into football coverage a few seconds before Kamala Harris started speaking and went back to the football right after Joe Biden's speech. A caption was on-screen throughout telling viewers to switch to USA Network for the football.

They have contractual obligations and was a big matchup.

And to think Rudy Giuliani was once Mayor of New York City.

More than that, he was called 'Americas Mayor' after 9/11

According to a story in the New York Times, the location was probably intentional to get away from interference by Democratic supporters in the city centre.

That's understandable, but the co-incidence of the name of the company sharing a name with a big hotel is either a mistake or someone on the campaign having a laugh

Unless it was a double bluff to get people to protest at the wrong location, Trump was telling people it was being held at the hotel.

Could very well be a bluff as The Four Seasons in Philadelphia is in the Comcast Technology Center which houses WCAU and WWSI, and was the NBC News Decision Desk. The hotel area is owned by Comcast/Liberty Property Trust and managed by the Four Seasons. The CEO of Comcast has a whole floor as a condo there. However I doubt they would be that smart to realize that, as they wanted to be in a Republican area of Philadelphia.

Also BBC employees, based on Media Boy’s post is NBC News Now a permanent fixture on the ringmain? I would have imagined CBSN (being their partner) would appear before NBC News Now, after all they are carrying MSNBC and if there’s any breaking news it would be carried there. I assume all the quad box multiviewers have their own feed. Is the ring main cable based where there’s a mini RF head end (how many feeds could it handle) or IP based?

TV Centre's ringmain was RF-based, and what a joy to maintain that was. I'd be very surprised if NBH wasn't an IP platform. The system I'm familiar with is supplied by Techex, and can use standard IP STBs attached to tellies, or a desktop client that lets you make your own multiviewers on your computer. (My laptop isn't quite powerful enough and usually grinds to a halt by the time I've added a third video to a quad split though...)

Turns out I asked this before. Noggin said it’s DVB-T based. I guess that’s easiest as you could plug in any tv and get it to work.

And not to be stalkerish as it showed up in my Twitter feed Media Boy showed an image from this website. Looks like you can get any feed. https://vidgrid.tk.gg/

The issue was that they had the news at the time they ran the graphics, but then delayed the announcement of the name in an Ant and Dec-style to build up tension. Yes, it's not a surprise as to who they're going to say at that point, but it's news not entertainment.

Adam Boulton literally waited for over 20 seconds between saying the race has been decided and it's a moment of history.... then actually saying who they are calling it for. In 4 years time will we have live intercutting shots between the candidates as they wait to see whose name the TV host says whilst Simon Cowell watches on?
