I think this episode was his last primetime episode when Millionaire turned 10 back in 2009.

That’s very sad news, the John Carpenter moment still makes me smile even to this day!

Hopefully he managed to enjoy at least some retirement with his family, can’t have been easy to adjust to that after such a long TV career!

I know Regis more from when he presented a daytime show with Kathy Lee Gifford. He was such a character on that show that the co-hosts were secondary.

The current incarnation of the show with Kelly and Ryan is nowhere as good.

Regis Philbin was part of television royalty in the U.S. His work in it's television industry throughout his whole career was 2nd to none.

His role as host of WWBTAM was groundbreaking to watch when the show was beginning in it's infancy in the U.S.

It was really a wonderful experience to see his some of his TV broadcasting craft come alive when I had watched the recent ABC documentary about the show in the U.S. on Youtube when his old friend Jimmy Kimmel was appointed host of celebrity versions of the show. I'm so glad that Regis had the opportunity to visit the most recent of Millionaire when it was airing on ABC this year.

It's really sad to hear tonight that Regis Philbin has passed away. The man was a living legend to television hosts worldwide.

May he rest in peace.

Letterman had Regis as a guest on his first show back after 9/11, 6 days later. It's an interesting watch if you can find it on YouTube.

Regis was a treasure. He really understood television better than anyone else. He knew how to be punchy yet was always comforting at the same time. He was a big reason why Millionaire became the national success that it was here, though of course his talk show was what put him on the map. He also did a great job in the handful of years when he hosted New Year's Eve.

Sad news. I’m of course very familiar with the name and some random appearances I saw of Regis over the years.

But to put it into perspective for those of us who didn’t know of him too well, who would we consider as the UK Broadcasting equivalent of Regis and his legacy?

Im guessing he was a Brucie or a Wogan equivalent?

60 years in show business. From starting off as a news anchor then his own show, then Live with Regis and Kathie Lee/Kelly for 28 years and a whole host of other shows in between.

We had Bruce Forsyth, the US had Regis Philbin.

Let's not forget his wonderful Simpsons cameo.
