The cost of running an online-stream channel, similar to ABC News Live or CBSN must be greatly cheaper than running a broadcast channel. They could quite easily fill the online channel with ITV News repeats, Tonight repeats, first look screening of Peston, all intertwined with live events, press conferences and special coverage.

Indeed, in French-speaking Switzerland RTS do this and call it "RTS Info" - they have an overnight loop which funnily enough is very similar to ITV Nightscreen. Other features on this 'virtual channel' include regional paper reviews and social-first broadcasts generally aimed at younger demographics.

Any info on how the ratings for the lunchtime news are affected by airing at 1pm rather than 1.30pm.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, it was below 1m (where on Monday, at 1:30pm, it was above 1m).

For comparison, BBC News at One got 3m on Tuesday and 2.6m on Wednesday.

Any news yet on when (if?) the regional news bulletins are going to go back to a decent length at lunchtimes and weekends. They might as well not bother at the moment they are so short. Especially at the weekend with it being the only bulletin all day. BBC provide a decent regional news at lunchtime and weekends and have also start showing the local opt outs during Breakfast too.
