Details of the recent revamp of the reception area of 200 Gray's Inn Road "which blends café culture and a hotel experience within a single space to respond to the changing work culture of modern occupiers, one which blurs the edges between work and leisure time":

These business magazines just love to use 30 words, when 6 would do, don't they?!
So, question - can anyone rock up to 200 GIR (once out of the 4th tier, obvs) and use the cafe, or is it only for workers in the buidling and vistors with a 'guest' lanyard around their necks?

The latter I suspect!
Though if you want to mingle with meeja types, you can (Tier 4 ts and cs apply) go and sit the Cafe Nero embedded in the side of BH/NBH. I took Mrs Markymark for a latte there once, she was underwhelmed by it all

I last visited ITN in about May 2019 and the new reception area was fully open then. It is possible (or at least was possible then) to enter the lobby area unrestricted and potentially use the café (though I didn't myself). You only have to have ID in order to go through the barriers and into the restricted atrium area.

Ok this is really off topic now but I'm not going to start a TV cafe thread! Does anyone know if (in normal times) the Channel 4 Horseferry Road cafe is accessible to the public? It's behind reception but not gated off like the routes to the offices. There's a publicly accessible garden at the back on their property and it would certainly be on brand to allow the public inside.

The last time I was in London (last January) I had a coffee and did some star spotting. In 10 minutes I saw Lord Hall, Ben Thompson and Angela Rippon. I was quite pleased with myself!

Despite the fact it's a Cafe Nero - the most tastebud grating latte in Central London - I've proped myself up in a seat against the windows and watched the world go by (and into BH) a few times. It really is a good place to go. Looking forward to going back when some form of normallity returns.
Best thing is when you order and for a brief moment you are asking if you are BBC staff, just before paying for your hot water infused grit!

Cafe Zero as Mrs MM refers to them

Although the Caffe Nero outside Broadcasting House is freely accessible what is not so widely advertised is the fact that the main reception area of NBH and the Media Cafe inside is also open to the public at reasonable times.
When the BBC did a deal with Westminster Council to construct the new wing of the building there was a requirement from the council that a certain proportion of the building must be accessible to the public. The main reception area is a.large part of that. The reception of Peel Wing was also listed but that became impractical so the BBC included the One Show Studio instead. At that time public tours of the building included the One Show Studio so technically it counted.
Since then the tours have stopped so.it would would be interesting to know which other area has been opened to the public in its place.
The other interesting fact is that the piazza outside the building is also public space owned by Westminster, since it was originally a road. Anyone can take photos or film there despite the the imposing presence of security guards. There is a clause which allows the BBC to restrict access for security reasons but it has to be kept open when the One Show hosts live events there.
Most of this info is available in planning documents on the Westminster Council website.
