More old clips... this time from Breakfast News.

Am I making this up, or was there a version of this theme with an additional drum beat after the opening drum roll... If that makes any sense?

Every time I see a video from this era it nags at me Rolling Eyes

I think from what I can tell, it was a little more pronounced in the original version, but sometime later got toned down when the title sequence was redone later. Check out this from TV Ark. https://www.tvark.org/?page=media&mediaid=105493

A rare clip of BBC World's Newsdesk from 1995 has surfaced:

Oooh that's a gem! Tim Sebastian reading the news and a BBC Prime ident! Who is the voiceover announcing the newsreaders?

It's a shame that the newsroom feed in the wide-shot is out of alignment with the studio. Does anyone know if there was a permanent transition to using the newsroom feed as a backdrop on BBC World or was that only used during certain broadcasts? [See the infamous clips of Nik Gowing presenting the breaking news of Princess Diana's accident in Paris in case you need a reminder of what that looked like]

Moira Stuart and Shaun Ley with the lunchtime news. It was rare for Moira to conduct interviews. This is one of the very few examples available:

BBC World Newsdesk with Tim Sebastian ^^

The “newsroom” backdrop was used for opening wide shots and also for news summary inserts within main programmes (such as this example above) and also for the overnight bulletins. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, Sue was possibly sitting at the same desk as Tim but “invisible” in the wide shot.

I'd hardly call that an interview, more like a scripted cue to break up Nick Robinson's monologue.

clunkily retitled News And Campaign Report.

A phrase that was reused for the news programmes in the run up to the 1997 Election:

Looking at a 1992 example, it seems odd having the combination of the newer music and the old style bombastic voiceover:

Although in 97 it was a good studio it showed one of the drawbacks of the virtual look in the opening titles.

In 1992 I presumed that they didn’t have headlines before the titles because they thought it would be difficult to be even-handed in that short time period. Not sure if that’s valid and it hasn’t been a concern since.

I think that sounds like the late Alastair Yates, but I might be wrong.

It does sound a little bit like Alastair Yates. But it could also be Patrick Lunt, who did the voices of the Six and Nine back in the day and was also a BBC Newsreader on radio.

Patrick Lunt definitely did some of the BBC World voiceovers in 1995:

My money's on him - purely for reasons of consistency - although it does sound like Alastair Yates on certain words. But maybe that's just because the words are being spoken in a similar RP accent?

Here’s an old Six... something you are probably familiar with.

But, what suprised me is that the whole sequence was done from the screen. I’ve never seen this before. Reminds be of the time Huw shocked the nation by standing at the catwalk at the start of the Ten a few years ago.

That can't be from 1999, the set has the red panels that were added in 2001.
