When exactly did BBC News start providing daytime summaries, as opposed to full lunchtime news, I wonder?

Sadly a lot of music gets literally binned each time a broadcaster moves out.
The Central News West 1998 package was found in a skip (circa 2009) when ITV gave up half of their building on Gas Street. I guess the developers don't care what they chuck out and a lot working in the industry couldn't give any thought to music that's no longer on air.
Many thanks, thegeek - well done for saving that CD. It makes you wonder just how many CDs and tapes weren't so lucky. Just how much history was thrown out during the move from TVC? That's quite a sad thought.

25th June 1978 was a Sunday, so that wasn't a daytime summary, just a lunchtime news update.

I used to get up at 7.45 on Saturday mornings just to watch the flags on Weekend 24. I also thought the opening sequence was cool - like some metropolitan couple doing middle-class things at the weekend with their widescreen CRT in their converted shoebox of a flat.

I found this CD in my garage, which I think I must have rescued from a bin in TV Centre before it closed, and I'd entirely forgotten about it until now.

Weekend 24 was on for an hour on Saturday mornings on BBC Two. I'm not sure when either versions of these title music were used, but it would only have lasted up until October when the bleeps and pips were introduced. I've had a quick look and can't easily see any captures of the bulletins on the web, but perhaps someone else can.
Anyhow, I thought I'd be nice in the forum's dying days and share them - they're too big for Metropol in one file, but here are two seperate zip files with Version 1 and Version 2.

Yes I remember that title sequence now - it amused me to think that the couple themselves must have been presentation enthusiasts since the only thing they seem to be watching is the News 24 flags!

I think this was the best Countdown graphics the BBC used - pity it was never used on the News Channel and confined just to BBC World - title sequence also way better than the poor versions today

Some newly uploaded BBC World clips from, I think, early 2002.
Part 1: featuring the end of WBR with Aruna Iyengar, Sport Today with Adnan Nawaz and BBC World News with Nisha Pillai:
Part 2: featuring Talking Movies followed by BBC World News with Nisha Pillai:
You'll notice that whenever Nisha turns to face the plasma screen to interview someone, her cushion is visible. She always sat with a cushion behind her back! I don't remember any other presenter doing this. Also, this was from just after the time when the kit that produced the break filler was decommissioned and therefore the text was only updated every now and then.
These clips bring back great memories for me as I *loved* BBC World's presentation at that time.

Yes, that situation didn't last very long. The original 10" countdown + symbol leading into the news bulletins was dropped in about October or November 2001 and was replaced by the 60" countdown seen in the video, accompanied by the News 24 countdown music. Once the bulletin music was refreshed in April 2002 (to match The World Today), the countdown music was updated with a brand new composition by David Lowe and remained until the December 2003 relaunch.

Yes, that situation didn't last very long.
