Part of the issue is that some people feel the manner in which he performed the wreath laying left something to be desired and was not sufficiently respectful. Hence why showing a shot from a previous year when he was more presentable and didn't lay the wreath upside down might be seen to be seen to be trying show him in a better light by somebody looking for a conspiracy.

The way some of the earlier tweets were phrased led me to understand that the complaint was that a shot from 2016 had been included in a package amongst other footage from yesterday. It now seems it was just a clip used in isolation and the explanation that it was a clip prepared for use on Sunday morning to preview the Ceremony that was used in error is totally plausible.

What does perhaps need an explanation is why they only showed Johnson laying his wreath. During an election purdah period shouldn't they be showing all of the party leaders equally as they all took part? Had they done that whoever was editing it might have had a "this isn't Jo Swinson" lightbulb moment and started again with the correct clip.

I've not seen what happened, and don't particularly trust any of the videos online to be accurate of what went out.

But yes, if they were editing together a single ulay of the party leaders then they'd have made that from the recording of the 2019 event. Although they could just have clipped up seperate wreath ulays of Corbyn and Swinson and played them back to back. In which case there is still the potential of either the producer choosing the archive one used the day before assuming that it's contemporary and not checking it.

To read the "uproar", anybody would think they'd played a VT of Boris "dad dancing" at the Cenotaph...

This is supposedly the clip in question:

It's an underlay to a story that's related to the election campaign and the fact that it's Armistice Day. The VO makes no mention of the Cenotaph service - it's just an illustration. Is it inaccurate? I don't think it is.
Were they doing it to hide the PM's appearance or clumsy wreath-laying? No, because it wasn't newsworthy. (Did anyone else cover it? Had he been watching Nichola Murray prepare?) Is it trivial to mistakenly dig out old footage on the BBC newsroom editing system? Apparently so.

Part of the problem is "former BBC producers" getting lots of retweets for saying "it doesn't work like that" about the explanation, who apparently last worked there when you had to write to the archive in triplicate a week in advance for them to dust off a can of 16mm for you.

If this is still the Christmas Election Thread, meaning it’s a few pages back since it was last discussed......with the Wreath taking over and all that.

Have ITV revealed their plans for election night?

I think I read a few pages back that Tom Bradby will host the overnight and Julie Etchingham the morning after. With regard to studios and other contributions, I haven’t read anything anywhere yet.

But I guess their main green pool studio will be used again.

Obviously, Robert Peston, Libby Wiener and Ranvir Singh will feature heavily at some point too.

Studio 1 at ITN will be used again no doubt. They will simply just adjust it slightly and bring back the 2017 election backdrop.

Is Studio 1 where ITN at Ten normally comes from?

Edit: sorry, News at Ten

It's just so bland and beige. I wish they would try something else.

Studio 1 is where all ITV national news programmes and ITV News London come from. It has two desk areas in one studio.

The Evening Standard yesterday suggested ITV were intending to use Ed Balls and George Osborne again, and given the editor of that paper is one G Osborne, it seems quite likely. It was part of a diary item which was suggesting Tom Watson might appear on Sky News on the night.
