There are a few episodes in 1992 and 1993 where the end credits have a different lead in to the 1995-1998 piano build up.. The earlier version lasts a little longer.

I wonder if on the 1992 titles the quality of the Emmerdale caption at the end changes from episode to episode like it did on the 1989 ones

Yes forgot about that, not often used but one example is 6 October 1992 which should be shown in the next week.

Also noticed today that the end of part one and part two music is in a slightly different key to that used for much of the 92-98 era. I don't think it lasted very long as we'll probably see.

I was away most of last week, so I'm still a few episodes behind, so I haven't actually seen the first episode with the new titles & music yet, I should be caught up in a couple of days though.

After having two Downton Abbey pre-emptions this week, next week is thankfully Downton cancellation free, though it's back to 2 days where we'll only get one episode the week after, thankfully that should be the penultimate Downton cancellation, with them getting into the final series. It might not have seemed as bad if they alternated taking Corrie and Emmerdale off to make way for it, but it's always Emmerdale that's been the sacrifical lamb.

Yes. Maybe next time they will look at taking Coronation Street off to make way or find a suitable slot for Downton Abbey which doesn’t affect other schedules.

I do wonder how far we will get before a potential Christmas Break? It would be nice if they maybe found a way of making up for these missed episodes by adding them to Saturdays and Sundays for a few weeks.

Yes, by today’s standards it seems a long time without any kind of update to the opening titles, yet I don’t personally think Emmerdale’s “sunset” titles looked particularly dated by the late 80s. They were quite abstract and generic, and became somewhat iconic - the final shot of the farmhouse became a “logo” of sorts, and it often appeared on holding slides, book covers, etc. Corrie’s looked more dated by comparison, not least of all because of imperfections that appeared in the film (and the fact the rest of the show filmed on VT, so there was a noticeable change in mood/quality as the titles faded into the first scene.

Even since 1990, Corrie has had very few changes to the titles - ignoring minor tweaks and updated shots, they have only changed twice since then, in 2002 and 2010.

EastEnders still uses the same “London street map” style credits that they used from day one, with only a handful of updates, and always keeping the same rotating, panning out shot from the bend in the river. If it ain’t broken....

Just made it to the first episode with the new titles, and the music is quite clearly a bit different to the version that was used for most of the 90s. There's even the strange bit where it seems to almost stop!

The video of the 1992 titles on the last page sounds more like the version I'm familiar with, I'm guessing they changed it after a while?

I remember Anne Diamond doing a TV Weekly Special which was dedicated to Emmerdale in early 1993. Even the ad breaks were to the Emmerdale theme. When it came back for part two she said that music is going to chance. Giving a sense it wasn’t popular with viewers. I thought the change came on December 30th 1993 with the plane crash and new titles.

They didn't change the titles or music at all until the plane crash in December 1993.

They arrived in August 1993 and we're at September 1992 now. So probably about 2 months.
