They may have learnt from the previous time when I think it took them several months to update RTE News Now’s look!

Evolution not revolution then - sticking with the logo and O’Donnell Abu seems to now be established as “the” RTE News theme music (it’s also much more longer established as RTE Radio 1’s tuning signal, of course). The set looks nice and it’ll be interesting to see it on air (though you can be sure that any fancy features will probably get used for a week and then dropped).

Be interesting to see if the graphics are updated - the existing ones would fit perfectly well with this revamp but it would be nice to see some change.

Love the refreshed music. The titles look a bit dull though.

Great new look. Studio 3 looks much bigger now on screen. They must be using wide angle lenses on the cameras. The backdrop is a mix between BBC News computer generated newsroom from 2008-2013 and ITV News room virtual backdrop in use since 2013. Very good indeed.

Just wondering how they will use the couch area. I mean, the One O'Clock and Nine O'Clock News would probably not use the area, and it more than likely be reserved for Six-One and The Week in Politics.

Sky News did something similar with their old logo on a screen displayed underneath news desk a few years ago. Like this maybe.

If RTÉ show the TWIP next Sunday; they just need to display their logo on the screen underneath the desk instead of applying their physical logo onto the desk. That would be great for changing news bulletin logos for each of the news bulletins & other special coverage like referendum, budget & election coverage. If RTÉ use Studio 3 for the European & Local Elections in May. From a visual aesthetics POV; that could be fantastic because the use of the new big screen is in view from their wide camera shots. RTÉ have a lot of great potential here with using it's new backdrop being better than ever before when the old Studio 3 had it's big on-screen look in the past.

The old video wall took up a large amount of space, this new refurbished look has apparently provided 25% more extra space and so we see the new couch area installed.

I like the new look. I will be watching Six-One News tonight to see how well it looks on screen properly.

This should get Virgin Media News team in Ireland a little cause for concern, as their set and design now has a good competitor.

Its interesting/smart what RTE has done. Its basically a desk and screen. Its a big investment to start but in the long run money well spent. They change things very easily. But what I dont like is background image they used. They could have put anything in the back ground. But like ITV, BBC, Sky they use those Lightwell evacuated newsroom images. Personally i dont like them. I guess its also the reason I dont like the German use of green screen virtual sets. Same difference. It looks pretty, but in the end its an fake empty newsroom with a couple of flickering monitors in the back ground. Not everyone can use license payer money to build a huge BBC newsroom. But the image is a bit of a let down. Ehh. But the background image aside, overall the look is great. Like the newsdesk and podium and the sofa and table. Very good choices. The updated music is very good as well. Well done to RTE for futureproofing their set. Because only simply need to change the background image to have a completely different set. I do agree and hope they use different colours for different dayparts, but the backwall of the "newsroom" is a window so they is likely the onyl part that will change. Well done overall.

This reminds me of the N6 revamp of 2006 when the improvements in technology meant much less room for screens and much more space on set. Definite improvement. Odd titles though (as usual from RTE).

Lower thirds are virtually unchanged in layout, though they animate differently. The “Live” graphic is now red and at the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

It looks significantly improved - the titles have grown on me, there's a really nice O'Donnell Abú sting after the top headline, and cohesive wipes for once.
