The reason? It seems RTE at a very late stage decided All Round to Mrs Brown's should be simulcast with its BBC One showing, and Six One is the show that is taking the hit in the rearranged schedule.
There is no way the Six:One would be ditched for something like this - it is really an institution in Ireland now.

Indeed. The only time when the Angelus and Six-One in its usual format were ditched on a day on which they would usually have been broadcast was for Obama's speech in Dublin during his visit to Ireland - which was, of course, a momentous news event, meaning that Six-One was absorbed by the news special.
So, it was actually the Nine that was affected not the 6? However on a Saturday the
Nine is usually flexible anyway

The late bulletin on RTÉ 1 is always referred to as "the main evening news". On all days except Saturday, it's also called the Nine O'Clock News (and also on those Saturdays when it is on at 9 because of political party leaders' conference speeches and election coverage).
The changes actually meant it aired 45 minutes earlier than planned - it was at 9:30pm in the original schedule (in which Madagacar 2 was to air at 6:35pm and Winning Streak at 8:30pm).

Shortly before last year's Christmas holidays the Saturday night bulletin was aired at 8:30 to make way for the RTÉ Sports Awards.
RTE News on RTE One is boring and dreadful now in 2017. I have been watching their output and it stinks. For a national broadcaster funded by the Irish viewers who pay 160 Euro a year licence fee, RTE News still does not wake up in the mornings and provide a proper breakfast news service on their main channel RTE One. It is 2017 and below is their schedule for Tuesday 2nd May at breakfast time.
4.15am Euronews Simulcast. 7.00am Teleshopping 7.30am Shopping from Home 7.45am Holby City. 8.55am The Doctors 9.50am The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
I assume they have a short news summary around 9.50am as their first bulletin of the day which they usually had. Utter disgrace that this is what the national broadcaster provides. They wave a white flag and allow TV3 Ireland AM have the breakfast slot with no alternative.
Yes breakfast television is very different to past years, but not even a RTE Morning News at 7.00am as an alternative to the fluff on Ireland AM just rings laziness and not wanting to left audiences creep away from their beloved RTE Radio Morning Ireland.
For those outside of the Republic of Ireland, now that the Water charges social justice outcry is over it's now become popular to attack RTÉ and the license fee as demonstrated above.

Thing is though, is breakfast a real priority for RTE Television?
Looking at the latest radio listening figures published last week, most radio stations put in some serious numbers of pairs of ears in the weekday morning drive slot - so faced with that - is a tightly budget controlled public service tv broadcaster really going to spend 4-5 million euro on developing and then producing their own breakfast programme, when most of the available audience is either on TV3, or (where viewable) Good Morning Britain, BBC Breakfast and Sky News or it seems, the multitude of radio stations available in all parts of the country.
Plus, if we are talking about finance - the 45 min block of 'commercial paid presentation' programming at 7am, must bring in a few more cents into the RTE piggybank than a blank screen or testcard would do.
I don't know it this 'abmomoly' still goes on these days, but I seem to remember that you had RTE One and TG4 both putting out Euronews at the same time. Could never quite see the point in that. Yes, if the TG4 one was dubbing the soundtrack into Gaelic, but they weren't.
One wonders what would happen if a major news story of Irish importance breaks before 7am?
Would RTE switch to domestic studio/location presenter led news coverage, or patch across RTE News Now (and therefore the Morning Ireland studio 'snoop' cameras) over to RTE One, and let the radio news team do the coverage, until normal programming resumes?

It has always been popular to attack RTE and the License fee, the only difference is the issues change. Many of the current complaints about the License Fee and RTE are legitimate, such as ridiculous wages for so called stars. Obviously, some complaints are daft.
