Yeah. There is another referendum about blasphemy which was being planned to be taken off the constitution since a few years ago when Enda Kenny's coalition government of Fine Gael & Labour were in power up until Election 2016. Aodhán O'Riordián was the minister of state for New Communities, Equality & Culture who announced the decision.

The reference to the women place in the home is from an older part of irish history that is influenced by the catholic ethos of Eamon De Valera who was a very staunch conservative catholic former leader of Fianna Fail & former president of Ireland.

The referendum on women's place in the home will not take place in October after all; it will be deferred until the local & european elections in May 2019. The Dail committee will not have enough time to debate the changes to allow passing of this legislation. It was intended that this referendum go ahead during the presidential election & referendum on blasphemy taking place in late October.

The final bit of major Irish news coverage for RTÉ News in Studio 3, with it's current look, will be the presidential election & referendum on blasphemy. This presidential election & blasphemy referendum will take place during the October Bank Holiday weekend in The Republic of Ireland. The referendum on women's place in the home will be held in the new look studio 3 on the same day as the local & european elections in May 2019.

It does look like RTE News will move out of Studio 3 before Christmas, so that the work on Studio 3 can commence with a January 2019 launch.

With Six-One thirty years old this week, RTÉ have published this collection of old openings (no narrative to accompany them unfortunately)

They skip the first two looks for some reason, and start with the 1994 virtual set that totally wasn’t inspired from the one the BBC unveiled the previous year. Not even the same wide shot with the same fake glass animation.

What is the point of RTE News Extra on a Friday night after The Late Late Show? For the other 6 days of the week, RTE scrapped their late news summary, but on a Friday they have maintained this relic from a bygone era, why?

For no reason other than to keep their audience for an extra commercial break, I imagine. But you the question really shouldn’t be why they maintain it, but why there shouldn’t be a late bulletin on other days of the week - 9:30pm is very early to be ending news coverage, although I suppose Prime Time (when it’s not in its long form documentary format) can cover breaking stories while it’s on air.

My word, some of those intros are awful. What on Earth is the 2006 intro meant to represent? I think the current intro is about the best, TBH. And, while this is only a minor thing, what's with the voiceover? "It's Six One"?! Surely "This is Six One" would sound far more professional for the news?

It is possibly what I have always expected about RTE News, they regard radio news bulletins as superior. This is why both RTE Radio 1 and 2FM have news bulletins on the hour every hour.

It all comes down to cash. They don't want to spend the money on the extra bulletin later at night. The Friday Bulletin makes them cash because of the extra ad breaks, but the other late bulletins were not so they dropped them. It is true in the past that the radio was regarded as superior to TV but that attitude died out in the 90's. The News service on TV is just not as well funded or managed as it used to be. 20 years ago when 24 hour TV started they had a middle of the Night summary usually around 2.30am Shocked

You really have to question RTE's Management on decisions made over the last 15 years. It's bad news when your commercial competitor (who really doesn't care about news) puts out more news and current affairs weekdays. Obviously in a far more tabloid manner, but it's still put out.

Just to add that the radio service isn't that great at times. It often doesn't get things correct when it comes to the technical side. Lines are dropped, mistakes are made. If you did that sort of thing in the top stations in the local commercial sector in Ireland as often as they do in RTE you'd be shown the door.

It could be referring more to the actual time: 6:01pm.
