The standardisation of the logo does make it slightly trickier to identify the channel at first sight from the DOG - E4 especially.
As for the 4Music branding debate - in a way bringing the E4 Music brand back would make more sense as it is now half music, half E4 esque. That logo would be a mess now though.
Currently watching C4 HD. Is it my imagination or is the 4 part of the DOG brighter than it was?
It is yep, especially on Channel 4 itself, which looks like 90% opacity.
To be honest, I was surprised how faint it was when they introduced it on the SD channel, because surely the reason you introduce it after going so long without is because you want people to see it.
A few more new E4 idents spotted going out on the channel today using a simpler animation style with some surreal scenes. I've not spotted them being used in the daytime junctions before today, although there could have been some showings tucked away in the very obscure junctions in the middle of the night.

E4 is wonderfully random - in keeping with the tone of the channel. Although the logo isn't great - it does show a perfect 4. I think they could have done even more with it if they kept the E separate from the 4 logo though.
More4 HD currently using the old logo, looks as though they didn’t update the ‘HD’-less logo that’s shown during SD shows, it’s correct on standard More4.
I’ve just spotted this error on Father Ted - they haven’t updated the 4:3 DOG to the new logo on More4 HD, so you’ve got a situation where SD is showing the new logo and HD is showing the old one.

I feel it is strange that we are now seeing more of the original Channel 4 logo on it's sister channels rather than on the main channel itself. With so many similar 4 logos now around, won't the original 80's logo now lose it's impact and feel a bit boring/dated??
I can't say I love these new logos at all. They would have been much better keeping the originals and have each channel have their own unique identity. Or do what UKTV does and flash the Channel 4 DOG in the corner at the start of the programme before changing to the old E4 logo for example. I can't see them keeping them very long and reverting back. They seem very simplistic by just slapping a word over the Channel 4 logo. I could have created them myself. They don't seem at all innovative or imaginative.
I think there is kind of an agreement here that it works for 4Music, and although strange at first I think Film4 gets away with it and I do like how the idents have been fully adapted to animate the new logo too, rather than it being a bit of a fudge (BTW, have all the idents survived the rebrand?).
E4 is a case of making the best of a bad situation - feels like they've taken the attitude of if they're going to be forced to use this logo they'll make the best of it. I do wonder if the E should be slightly smaller and more in line with it's traditional shape by not expanding across the second vertical bar of the 4.
More4 is the one that really lets it down IMO - it really does look lazy and new logo or not the channel was overdue new idents anyway, so to just slap the new logo over the old idents isn't great at all, whilst the logo does just feel like text slapped on top of the 4. And although there is a bit of the flipper animation in it really it's the one logo that doesn't feel like it carries across anything from the previous branding. Film4 get away with using the old idents because the new logo animates into them in a very similar way and it looks like it was intended to be there - the More4 logo is just there and in no way connects to the idents at all.

The Channel 4 logo will last forever. It is so dynamic and such a unique piece of televisual DNA there are endless possibilities if you have the right creative mind.
To solve the logo problem they should have the Channel 4 logo in its full glory and then have the text to the left or right of it as applicable (basically what Channel 5 do with their digital channel logos). The 4music one looks the best because it doesn't actually change the Channel 4 logo it just highlights a few blocks.
I do wonder if these Channel 4 creatives go home and decide to rebrand the sign outside their house and merge the name of the street onto the number of their house outside and think oh, that looks really distinctive and great? hmmm.
I'm not sure if they've done all of the idents for Film4 yet in the new look as it's still early days. But they've certainly gone to the trouble of properly animating some of the more complex ones where the scene interacts with the logo so it seems likely they've done them all.
See here the piano one done properly...
As mentioned, much better than More4 where it's just a new logo quickly slapped on top...
Honestly, I was really excited to see the piano ident because of the logo interaction in the original version, but this v2 just... it just doesn't feel right, and I can't really tell why.
