This must be a little unusual for the BBC to have someone publically leaving for a rival but still set to do a few weeks work before hand. In the past a departee in that manner is shuffled off on to gardening leave.

Robert Peston continued reporting for the Beeb for several weeks after announcing he was leaving for ITV News. I suspect in the current environment it’s more difficult for the BBC to be able to justify paying one of their higher wage earners for not being at work.

Normally gardening leave is used where you'd have a conflict of interest, or be able to take commercially sensitive information to a rival, or where the departure hasn't been amicable.

Adrian Chiles announced he was leaving The One Show, but worked out his contract before leaving for ITV, as there was no reason for him not to.

It doesn’t sound like it’s going to be show on World. https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2018/james-cook?ns_linkname=corporate&ns_campaign=bbc_press_office&ns_mchannel=social&ns_source=twitter

I think James was referring to the agenda of the programme, i.e. it won’t cover Scotland only issues the way Reporting Scotland does.

The ever-present Joe Lynam leaves BBC News today. Joe will take up a new role in Brussels.

Another one gone from the Business Unit. Joe was quite a legend at BBC News.

At least I can walk in the streets around the back of BH on a Saturday afternoon, without fear of seeing Joe recording an interview with someone and me having to quickly duck out of shot! Very Happy

I'm sure Joe is still cursing your for all those near infringements of his #WeekendNewsClub assignments!

He's probably one of the longest serving (if not the longest serving) Business Reporter at BBC Television News, if I'm not mistaken. (Specifically reporter, not Presenter).

Andrew Verity is the only other name that springs to mind as a long-serving BBC business reporter. (He used to special in personal finance ISTR)
