Given how much he slagged off ITV, it's surprising he was ever rehired by them.
Didn't ITV badly mishandle his contract renewal, which is why he went to Channel 4?
I also remember ITV putting up repeats of their Paul O'Grady Show (starting from episode 2) against the New Paul O'Grady Show on Channel 4. Weird times.
The story goes that Granada 'forgot' to renew his contract, but I believe the dispute was about who had more creative control. O'Grady wanted to produce the show with his own company.
Incidentally, this was the same reason Granada fell out with Trisha before she moved to Channel 5. And ITV screened episodes of Trisha against the new Trisha Goddard show on Five.

Bringing it vaguely back on topic and you have to question now whether there would actually be studio space in London for any channel to launch a similar daytime or evening daily chat show with an audience.
Well if it was for ITV there's potentially TC2.
Paul o Gradys show is a bit of an anomaly though, similar daytime shows haven't used traditional big production studios but either used one of their own or built one. I'm thinking mainly of the shows from Cactus and Princess, though going back further, the Terry and Gaby show.
For a daily show it would be cheaper just to build your own, one advantage of course is that the location can be more interesting

Repeating old Paul O'Grady episodes against the live Channel 4 show was a huge mistake by ITV. Trisha being recorded at least the audience wouldn't be aware or care it was repeats although IIRC didn't ITV have a backlog of new episodes of Trisha that they aired against Channel 5?
I don't think there's an appetite for a new daytime chat show, the last one ITV aired was Mel and Sue's chat show that lasted a series.

Interesting though that in 2010 ITV were able to tempt him back to them with a prime time show. Paul O'Grady Live was not a success, and it ended in 2011. However his attitude to ITV changed when they commissioned Love of Dogs.

It had a new theme tune by McFly, and a stairlift on the entrance steps. It seemed like the last throw of the dice to not have the 5pm slot cemented as the quiz slot.
Though I doubt the current 'Born Risky' Channel 4 would want to have Richard and Judy as well as Paul O'Grady in their lineup anyway…
Does anyone even remember the short-lived ITV revival of the teatime Paul O'Grady Show a few years back now? Fond memories of the mid-00s version maybe, but not the most recent one.

Yes, they had a couple of months' worth of episodes of Trisha to keep showing, and I remember it was still being shown after they launched the ITV Day branding which was supposed to be a whole fresh start for ITV daytime. It meant that the Channel 5 version started in the afternoons and then they moved it to the mornings when ITV finally ran out.
It's impressive how quickly they managed to replace it, though - they tried out a few things at 9.25, including a thing called People's Court and a month of UK-produced Jerry Springer shows, but Jeremy Kyle arrived within a few months and immediately took off. Which is very impressive given how long it took them to find something to go in the 5pm slot after they lost Home and Away.

I seem to recall that The Jerry Springer Show and The Jeremy Kyle Show had identical graphics and titles design, except the former was in red and the latter was in blue - were they trialling both for a full series, or was Jerry Springer always going to be a one-off run?
JA
Yeah Jerry Springer and Jeremy Kyle were virtually identical except the colours.

Sad day today at ITV Towers as the canteen, post room and workplace services closed as all staff have now moved to new offices leaving the building empty.
However, it turns out that after only just finishing moving everyone out of the Tower to decommission it, now around 200 of the staff who moved out will soon be moving back into the Tower for a couple of months while their new office space at Grays Inn Road is refurbed so maybe delaying the planned demolition date.
