Zeinab Badawi.

Not only does Zeinab tick many of the (imaginary in some cases) boxes that are referred to above, but first and foremost, she is an excellent broadcaster with an exceptional command of all manners politics and is also a highly experienced moderator and host.

My money is on Zeinab.

I'd love to see Zeinab land this, second option would be Kirsty Wark, third Emily Maitlis. It needs to be a woman 100%.

Why? Surly it should be the best person. Not a tick boxing ....

Not my choice personally. As bland as Jo Coburn.

Funnily enough I was tempted to edit my post this morning to add her name into the hat. According to IMDB she's presented Sunday Morning Live a few times back in 2012/13. I could be wrong but I think I've watched her hosted and done interviews for several NT Live cinema screenings. From what I've seen I think she would be more than qualified for the role (and I dare I suggest also tick the BBC's gender/diversity boxes).

Probably worth noting the update she tweeted an hour ago...

Kirsty Young would be brilliant!

Sorry. When the news was announced, there really is only one candidate..

Yes, indeed.

Why not have two hosts that alternate each week? That way they can a male and a female and it might just give the programme the refresh it needs. I'd go for Jeremy Vine and Emily Maitlis.

No one can cry foul of gender inequality or favouritism either way then.

After seeing Emma Barnett on Marr a few weeks ago, I think she’d be a good choice. Question Time definitely needs a bit of a revamp; another older male host probably wouldn’t take the show in a different direction.

I was also going to suggest a rotating panel of hosts, like Newsnight.

I noted that Emma Barnett didn't return to Sunday Morning Live this series, she's been replaced by Cherry Healey.

Might as well add Sophy Ridge into the mix, not as good as Barnett and a tad hockey sticks, but worth a go on the young woman category of political journalists.

I'd love to hear your objective "best person" criteria.

How would I know what the best person criteria is for the new QT host, that will depend on what production whats, but to shoehorn in certain type of person just to tick boxes isnt good thing.

A radical thought I know, but if I were drawing up a list of criteria for the best person to host Question Time, I'd probably do it in a list format, perhaps with boxes I could tick to indicate whether candidates met each criterion.
