This may be of no use to anyone but there have realigned the camera shot the presenters to look like this:

*

For me, that looks a lot tidier than a grubby shot of outside which sometimes has a spider crawling around the camera.

I always wanted to see the person in control of the cameras (presumably they control outdoor ones) either turn on the washer or move the camera ever so slightly. All in an effort to move the creature.

Unless they're doing the trick BBC Newsline appear to have done, putting in generic images because they haven't a recording showing the snow outside.

For me, BBC Scotland and the nations in general could do with a more bespoke solution for their programmes. These aren't regional news as such, they're national news programmes.

Scotland seems to be tinkering around with things at the moment and tried out a new opening sequence for a while during the election, so I'm hoping the new BBC Scotland channel will result in a bit of a shake-up. Because newsreader in front of grubby TV shot of Glasgow is quite passe for me.

I'm surprised there haven't done 5mins opt out for the north / southern scotland. Reporting scotland is dire.

I understand BBC Scotland commissioned its own sequence and theme a few years ago when the latest titles were rolled out across the UK, but it was vetoed by London. I haven't ever seen the titles or heard the theme so I've no idea whether it was on quality grounds, or because the HQ's view was that there shoud be a consistent image. Maybe one day, someone will leak it!

Probably consistency - but I'd say the theme was probably the one used for the election coverage.

I'm still surprised that when the nations were revamped in 2008, Wales stood firm with the 'why does the globe feature heavily in a regional news programme' and ended up having the regions of Wales rather than the world, which made more sense, but am surprised Scotland didn't press heavily for it.

Reporting Scotland has billed itself very much as a national news programme for some time. STV/ITV Border have you covered if you want a show that focuses more on your area.

In terms of the quality of the show, I reckon it has improved immeasurably in recent years. It seems to have less twee five minute fillers that you normally see on local news in a part of England with a very quiet news patch. It's still not perfect and it'll need to raise its game further to make the News at Nine work, but it's in the right direction.

First time I’ve seen the ELP title sequence since it was broadcast 1982 ish. Never seen the 1970s BBC Scotland Colour holding slide before either.
