No. humberside airport is in the region. Would say the next nearest would be Robin Hood then Leeds Bradford.

I can't get as excited as Radiolistener about this, but I do think the EMA feature was pushing it somewhat.

Both Humberside and Robin Hood have a very limited selection of airlines and destinations available. East Midlands is 40 minutes closer by car from Lincoln than Leeds Bradford is.

It's an hour's drive from Lincoln, so easy commutable and thus potentially an important local employer for people in the patch too.

Therefore I would suggest that news about EMA fits the criteria of news of interest to people in the EY&L patch they wouldn't make it to the national bulletins.

To me it seems as if they realise that the boundaries of their transmission area are dictated by Physics rather than what makes editorial sense and are trying to put out a programme that is useful rather than pretending that anywhere without line of sight to Belmont doesn't exist.

I understand the geography, living in Lincoln as I do and using EMA a couple of times a year. So yes it is more relevant to hear about that to me than say LBA. Could say the other way around for someone living in, say, Driffield.

Also I understand the point of editorial decisions, and get what you are saying. Yes a major employer regionally, but I would suggest that most in Lincolnshire who work there would be East Midlands Today watchers in the Grantham area.

Anyway, moving on - I wonder what colour tie Peter will be wearing tonight? 😁

The BBC Yorks and Lincs region was created when terrestrial TV only was mainly used, but now digital I see no reason why they cant broadcast two lots of BBC1's one for East Yorkshire which could show the Leeds version and serving the whole county and renamed Yorkshire Today and the other showing East Midlands Today to cover the whole of Lincolnshire on the Belmont

Because it's one transmitter, whether it be analogue or digital.

That's why they could show two BBC1's with the space digital has which would both broadcast on the Belmont and you choose the region for your area covered (the only difference would be which BBC1 region would be the channel one slot and the other further down on the EPG listings)

That solution is widely used in Sweden. In their main SVT PSB SD mux you usually get two regional variations of SVT1 and SVT2 to chose from. However SVT have more regions (as they split each region into smaller regions and pre-record their local news to allow one studio centre to produce multiple bulletins which are then broadcast simultaneously)

Moving Hull back to the Yorkshire region would be a downgrade, where stories from Hull and the East Riding would fight with stories from Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, York, Scarborough and the South Yorkshire commuter area.

There's a lot more in common with Hull and Grimsby than Hull and Chesterfield, also in Look North's Leeds region.

Yeah, what lincs1 suggested would only work if Sky was the only service BBC One broadcast on. It's a case of satellite vs terrestrial, not analogue vs digital.

That kind of split wouldn't work for North and North East Lincolnshire. As far as public services and business go most things are aligned with the North Bank and Yorkshire. For example they aren't in the East Midlands so Yorkshire and the Humber regional statistics would still have to be quoted. For an East Midlands Today to adequately cover North and North East Lincolnshire there would be a lot of duplication with a Yorkshire Today and a lot of irrelevant stories for the rest of the East Midlands Today area

On the other hand a Yorkshire and Humber service wouldn't go down well with some (personally I'm proud to be born in Humberside, live in Barton and have little interest in stories from the Lincolnshire County Council area, but some do feel the connection to Lincolnshire)

There are no easy answers here, as the arguments for why the current service isn't ideal do have some merit. I don't know that there is a perfect solution

Only in so much that you can go back to a Leeds 30 minute programme with a 5-10 minute opt out, also from Leeds, but for the Belmont area.

If they are having to fish for EMT stories it's not good is it?

It's still a lot better than having a South Today Oxford/BBC CI style opt-out. Just face it mate, EY&L and Levy aren't going anywhere and you'll either have to accept it or post your ranty nonsense on Digital Spy.

In theory they could broadcast two versions of PSB1 from Belmont to provide two different BBC One regions. This arrangement is used for PSB2 on the Ridge Hill transmitter, allowing viewers in Herefordshire and Worcestershire to watch ITV Central, and viewers in Gloucestershire to watch ITV West.

Although that would depend on frequency availability, and I suspect a lot of viewers would just end up watching whichever version lands on LCN 1.

Maybe they're nicking stories because they were too busy editing their already naff titles to put in some even naffer looking Christmas shots.

Speaking of using things from outside their patch, the Emley programme had its weather picture from Scunthorpe tonight - not even Belmont used that one.
