Had 16:9 TV sets not made it to Yorkshire yet?! At least they're frameless and flat-screen, I suppose. "Video walls" in the era of Cathode Ray Tube tellies etc were always dreadful.
Midlands Today's "window" during this era was originally made from a pair of 16:9 screens, each in portrait orientation and placed side-by-side. There was a "window frame" including a central vertical bar to cover the seam. It was eventually replaced with a single larger screen, at least big enough to equal if not exceed the previous 2-screen "window" size.
You know, I always thought that style of screen was standard issue, but it seems not. I think it looks better than the obvious edges of the screen making up the Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle windows. Remember that the whole national news set was the same at around that time.

Loved these titles - the ones they were replaced with (in the YouTube clip above) were not a patch on them.
Back when I was a student, we once had a talk from someone in BBC Leeds’ graphics department who talked a bit about the making of those titles.
Apparently they had wanted the floating blocks of the diamond-shaped logo to look like glass, but back in 1994 it was beyond the capabilities of the designers they were working with, so the orangey colour and less transparent look they ended up with were something of a compromise.
Note the Election desk there is the old semi-circular one from the previous Look North set:
I remember that desk having been kept in storage in Radio Leeds’ huge unused drama studio for several years. I can’t comment as to whether I might have gone and sat behind it to imagine myself as a LN presenter on one occasion.

They did indeed - the soft set launched well into the Christa Ackroyd era. Having sat on one of the chairs, I can confirm they were not comfy!

I might be wrong but I'm sure when they went corporate, they kept the old pre-corporate circular desk for North of Westminster as well. The corporate soft set debuted much later

I wonder how far in advance they got the corporate logo? Could it have been rolled out across the BBC for use after launch so updated anyway, and subsequently LN decided to rebrand the following Monday anyway?

That’s actually my VHS recording. I wondered on the day if they’d update the titles for the sake of one bulletin, so put a tape in.
I suspect they changed it due to orders from above. I had a flick over mid-way through to Look North from Newcastle, who also had a new look coming on the Monday, and they’d updated the BBC logo too.
