Im sure someone on here knows the answer. Any reason why the choppers constantly are in motion when shooting live? Noise? Flight restrictions or something? Just curious.

I believe it may be to reduce continuous noise for residents as per British Helicopter Associations guidelines for filming : http://www.britishhelicopterassociation.org/wp-content/uploads/Civil-Helicopter-in-the-Community.pdf

This probably the real reason. Thanks for finding the documents nog. Smile

I'm not a helicopter pilot either, but when I have been doing airborne work, I have been told that it is easier to fly than hover.
The most difficult thing to do is to hover when there is no wind.
As someone previously mentioned, getting caught in your own turbulence is an issue.
I remember one hot sunny and very still day trying to hover over a race at Brands Hatch with the pilot getting sweat pouring into his eyes suddenly we had to move to gain some airspeed accompanied by a great deal of swearing.
The radio in my ears was shouting about signals breaking up, but it was the least of our problems at the time!

You may find this interesting.
TV helicopter related. Sky Sports F1 took a ride in the FOM tv chopper in Belgium a couple of years ago.
It explains the problem of getting trapped in its own vortex in the package.

This Morning on as normal. Alice Beer at the scene and Eamonn and Ruth in breaking news mode.

Eamonn and Ruth dressed in black as well. In Fern Britton's book, she discusses getting ready to do TM as the reports of 7/7 were coming through, telling Phillip Schofield they'd better change their clothes to something black.
