Actually a bit curious about that last one. I have a family home video sitting around which previously had been used for stuff recorded from STV. Before the video camera stuff starts, you see a quick flash of that last ident. The home video stuff was filmed in September 1989.

If your on about this one: It because no one has every come forward to claim other wise, plus there has never been any clips to help prove it that it was broadcast in 1989! ( its the same about YTV 1991 ident was changed) Your now filled in the missing piece and you have also back up the fact STV kept using its own idents at the same time as the ITV one: ( its possible the ITV ident was in use in 1990 but again there no proof nor has anyone said otherwise, PLUS it would have been very rare) There a tone of clips from Late Dec and it just the STV ident)

623058, you mentioned Border's logo used prior to the 1989 look. Weren't there two slides, one showing the word 'colour' and one without. In the colour era, were these used interchangeably, or did the one without the word 'colour' replace the other one?

I believe it was the latter but you might be better off asking someone for the region.

GMG North (Granada, Yorkshire, Tyne Tees)...
* Once the rebrand to ITV1 the live shots were killed off.

Sorry to complicate things further but when the ITV1 thing arrived and the live shots were killed off, GMG North introduced a variant of the hold ident where the lines form up over the hold music. This was what I first saw when I came back from holiday in Spain back in 2001 and me and my sister both agreed it was crap. I think at some point they agreed and replaced it with the standard hold they'd been using since 1999. Whether the two ran concurrently from the beginning, I'm not sure, but I don't think so. This is the only example of it I can find...

I don't think it lasted very long at all, although I couldn't tell you when it went. I reckon early, like within the first month or two.

Also, the standard lines ident was used, albeit very rarely. I definitely saw it at least once over the next year or so and here's an example of it...

LWT - As with GMG North, until the replaced the hearts with video wall idents.

Not quite. LTW would use an equivelent to the GMG North 'hold' ident to promote what was coming up after the break, as it had been doing with previous look. It would then use lines for the junction into the programme. I'm not sure if LWT ever used the live action sequences. If they did, it was rare, as I can't find an example...

I seem to remember they were only used for a couple of weekends, maybe 3 or 4 at the most

GMG North stations had the piano variant of the music with the fairground ident, so that's another difference between GMG North & LWT.

What was the story behind the piano variation? Did GMG North make it in house? I liked it because it broke up the monotony of just having the string version for near enough every junction like in other parts of the country. It also suited some of the idents better than the string variant, like the washing line one.

Do you have any link to the piano clips?

I have a downloaded clip in RM format, so I think I must have got it from TVArk or TheTVRoom or somewhere like that.

It's called 1999c.ram if that helps.

For GMG North stations? There's plenty of clips on youtube. Here's the fairground ident (22 seconds in) using the piano variant, unlike LWT in your clip which used the standard one...

The beginning of that video shows a good example of the 'hold' ident GMG North used with the music already about 20 seconds or so in.

I've read that Anglia & Meridian used the piano variant for a short while at least after the GMG takeover but I can't find any examples of it. Certainly, if they ever did they soon reverted back to the standard types.

Yes they did change on 1st February 2010. Originally the logo was the same size as on the 2008 idents, but from 2010 the logo was super sized and tilted.

You can see channel 5's breakflashes up to 2011 here: http://www.thisisfive.co.uk/fivebumper.shtml

(And it's the date in the titles that are wrong - it definitely was 2010).
