Have you seen it in real life?

I presume not but we won't see it "in real life" when it launches. It might look amazing close up but its whether it looks good on a screen or not that matters.

Out of curiosity how many control rooms are back for day to day production at the current news facility? Don't they have two different presentation studios that would warrant a different control room? I only ask because of the decamping to Milbank during rehearsals at Sky Central seems a bit odd for such a major news organization that's on the air so much.

Also, why aren't they waiting until the technical facilities (control room) at Sky Central are set up before starting rehearsals? Surely they'd need to have technical rehearsals later on for the new equipment and based on what we've heard the new studio won't be online any time soon.

Hi...

Gallery A at Osterley is used for day-to-day output on Sky News. This is the same gallery that will be controlling the new glass box studio when it goes to air, so it’s needed for rehersals too. Millbank also has a fully operational gallery, so therefore possible to do live and pre-recorded programming from there when required. Very handy for situations like this.

Sky News will get a new gallery when it moves into Sky Studios next year.

Just to explain the buildings.
Unit 1 - current set, current newsroom & current gallery
Sky Central - new glass box studio from October
Sky Studios (where Sky Sports News and other productions have been since 2011) - Sky News moves in next year, 2nd new studio, new newsroom, new gallery

How is the international feed generated?

During the sports updates we either get the 3 mins sports update from the website or a repeat of Week in Review. The ticker appears to be the same as the standard version and appears on the sports update And WiR and the Skynews.com over the clock sits on top of it all along with the logo. During the adds we get either the facebook videos or at the top and bottom of the hour the world weather update.

Sky News International appears to have variations depending on the feed. The Zattoo Switzerland stream, which I assume is from 19.2e sometimes has commercials instead of one of the fillers and the sports bulletin is identical to that shown in the UK, complete with the full SSNHQ graphics while the YouTube version has the website bulletin, followed by the SSNHQ promo loop.

As far as I know, there is an international feed and a US feed, which is what runs on Roku and Apple TV in America. It's simply because we don't have the rights to broadcast sports footage beyond the UK.

I'd assume in that case, the YouTube stream is identical to what is used on Roku and Apple TV in the States. The Sky News app used on Roku/NOW TV boxes and Amazon Fire TV in the UK has the standard UK feed with UK commercials and trailers for Sky shows.

Obviously local outlets who provide Sky News International can add their own commercial breaks when we see the world weather filler or other VT's.

Fair enough, but that being the case, why do you get the international feed if streaming Sky News in Ireland rather than the UK feed? That's what I never worked out, for example I'm in Dublin now and we often don't get any of the latest special programs (normally replaced with week in review) and also get the website loop.

Before the website changed in the last refresh, we used to get the same version of Sky News that was shown on Irish Sky and Irish cable, which eventually switched to the UK feed with UK ads but since the refresh of the website it seems they just stream the international one?

Worth noting that UK viewers who also stream Sky News via the website also receive the restricted Sky News International version. It appears the changes happened when Sky changed from in-house streaming to YouTube that this happened. However Sky News apps still stream the UK version if you have a UK IP at least.

The app is weird for me in that normally every 10-15 minutes it freezes, if you swipe out of the tab on Android and then back to it, it works again. I haven't really watched it much via the app to be honest, because it doesn't have the controls that the Youtube version does for play, stop, rewind etc.

From my occasional comparisons the YouTube / App feed is different from the US Apple TV feed. The AppleTV feed has more sports highlights than YouTube but then they play a video for their Sky Sports Syndication deal. YouTube will have a different anchor presenting.

Why should that matter? From the impression weve been given so far theres nothing that great about it. Its bland. Wow a balcony with glass windows. Woo...

People working at desks... pretty similar to the view you already have.

What kind of view would you like to see? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon perhaps?

I would like to see a dark blue and red bunker with blurry TV screens in the background.
