Btw is it me or the trailer for BBC euro 16 it's not in widescreen, it's got black bars left and right like the whole thing was filmed in 4:3 ratio, btw I have seen same trailer on world with the same black bars but in full HD.

Yes, just seen it on my recording of Top Gear from BBC Two HD last night and it's definitely pillarboxed.

Same old forgettable pointlessness from the BBC. Vocals sound a bit strangled, almost as if she's singing with a potato in her throat. She's not French either, which is a shame.

Not had a strong theme since 1998. Most people will remember the ITV one even if it's complete cack because they hear it every ad break and gets stuck in their head.

It is actually getting good reviews on twitter etc. and agree with Brekkie that it sounds promising but will reserve final opinion until I see the finished product before the first match on the BBC.

I disagree about not having a strong theme since 1998, I don't remember the 1998 World Cup but I think their Euro 2004 titles were brilliant

and as for ITV I think most of their intros for major tournaments that I can remember have been poor bar Euro 2008

Mate, your totally wrong ITV's themes for the last two World Cups iconic and have got the tone spot on far superior to the BBC's offering.

Do like those Euro 2004 titles.

Indeed, all the ITV themes were rubbish, sounds like one of them things people just say by default, because of course they must be rubbish.

The ITV themes recently have been popular especially when they got the musicians into the studio towards the end of the competition to perform the themes live.
Nicky and Toby Lerone gave kudos

The key test is bet more people remember the last couple of ITV themes over the BBC ones.

Can't believe I forgot ITV World Cup 2010 theme, that was brilliant although I didn't like 2014 as much but I suppose your right people remember ITV because the BBC themes have been pretty safe.

I would think everyone would remember "Brazil" which was sung in and out of every ad break. I can still remember the little tune that Santander used on their sponsorship stings for the same reason.

Whilst I usually favour the BBC's themes (and coverage) I have to say that ITV's themes for the past two World Cups have been brilliant. Really great!

It's interesting when you look at the top search results on YouTube…

The BBC didn't help themselves by having Mock the Week poke fun at the "Braziiiiiilll" sound bite as it's only made it stick in people's heads more. Far fewer people song "na na na na naaaaaa na na naaa naaa naaaaa" to themselves.

On a similar theme, it's funny how the various World Cups resonate with different parts of one's life. The 2002 World Cup was the first one I took any interest in, and I remember watching an inordinate number of matches in the classroom at primary school, and the school inviting us all in early to watch England's quarter-final. Then the 2006 World Cup, watching many of the matches at home and getting really into the presentation side of it all. Skip forward to 2010, and I was doing my A levels, and I remember the 'Sing Africa' ITV sting echoing around the Sixth Form centre as many of us coupled revision with keeping an eye on the football. Then, 2014, my final year at university, and the sheer nostalgia of my time at university coming to an end, with the World Cup just overlapping with the end of the academic year and many 'lasts' in my uni life.

And it's the theme tunes that play such a large part in that - although for 2014, it's the BBC theme that really resonates with the memory. Having said that, the ITV tune was very good, too. I think that the BBC 2006 theme was very successful, mind, and I'd disagree with the statement that the BBC haven't had a decent theme since 98. I'd have 2006 and 2014 as successes, along with Euro 2004, TBH.
