When they're rabid right wingers who see him as some poor put-upon victim.

A poor victim who assaulted a colleague and got a massive pay rise and cushy job with Amazon. How my heart bleeds for him. If only we could all punch our workmates and do so well out of it!

What I don't understand is people are reacting like Clarkson and Co are out of a job. They're on Amazon doing almost exactly the same show, possibly better given the budget and creative freedom. Nobody's forcing anybody to watch the BBC show.

And if people don't want to pay for Amazon Prime, go and torrent it. If people don't see a problem with punching a colleague, they won't have a problem denying Amazon a few quid by downloading one of their shows. I'm sure some of the people moaning about the BBC are probably the sort who take pride in not having a TV licence.

And presumably, Amazon will have to try and recoup some of the budget, but selling the show after the first run rights have expired to 'normal' broadcasters?

Ye-es, in much the same sense that the trailer for Harry Hill The Movie was funnier than the one for Pacific Rim ...

Should we really be encouraging illegal practices on here? Piracy is illegal.

Should be fairly easy. If I were an international broadcaster I would not carry the Chris Evans show and instead take the Amazon show. And to be honest, I think most international markets will make that choice. That's going to seriously harm the income Top Gear brings in to BBC Worldwide.

So is physical assault, yet some posters seem happy to overlook that in certain cases.

They could, but if your budget only stretches to acquiring one motoring show, realistically which are you going to choose?
