The previous Top Gear presenters seemed to manage to do other programmes as well as Top Gear, I don't see why another series of Episodes would be an issue
Indeed.
For example... Hamster's wider TV career includes various lightweight science/engineering type programmes for Auntie Beeb, several series of Brainiac: Science Abuse for Sky, and even a short-lived teatime magazine show for ITV. Meanwhile, Captain Slow has done various BBC series including Man Lab, Toy Stories, and those wine-tasting programmes with Oz Clarke. The only Clarkson thing that I can think of at the moment is his multiple guest-hostings of HIGNFY, but I'm sure there must be other things too.
All of these other shows were pre-"fracas" (i.e. when each were still part of TG). In fact, I'm sure that Hammond & May were both either totally or predominantly "unknowns" to most/all of TV-watching general public before they each joined the revamped Top Gear in the early 2000s? Therefore, most/all of Hammond & May's other TV work could only have ever come their way after TG gave them sufficient profile/fame/notability (whatever).
Dunno much about the careers of any of the many 1977-2001 Top Gear's presenters, but I doubt that many/any of them worked *exclusively* on TG during their respective incumbencies.
Did the "Clarkson" chat show only exist during the gap between Old Top Gear's axing and New Top Gear's birth? Or did it overlap with either/both?
Jeremey Clarkson left 'old old' Top Gear, to host Clarkson (the chat show) for BBC Two. There was no overlap.
He also did a travel series sometime between leaving TG and the start of the chatshow, called, IIRC 'Jeremy Clarkson visits the Neighbours' - which was him basically travelling around Europe, around the time of the introduction of the Euro.
He also had his own motor series 'Motorworld' but I think that was done as a Top Gear production team filler show, during the series break of Top Gear.
During 'new old' Top Gear, the only thing he's done is the straight to DVD 'car apocalypse' specials, produced in association with BBC Worldwide, which appeared in the run up to Christmas.
And a few years ago, he presented a historical documentary about the botched World War Two Arctic boat convoy, which was fascinating and brilliantly put together.
I guess the reason he was not a prolific as his co-hosts with other solo tv projects, was that he also had columns in The Sun, and Two in the Sunday Times - one general opinion piece, and one test drive piece for the 'Driving' supplement each week.

Yes, and contrary to how it appears, 99% of it is filmed in the UK.
I don't pretend I don't like Top Gear, but the reactions from the fans makes me want to distance myself from it further and further. Clearly nobody told these people what Amazon Prime are doing.

He also presented the first series of Robot Wars during his stint on old old Top Gear, and I remember his presenting a series called "Inventions That Changed The World" during his stint in old Top Gear.
Was expecting a bit more of a refresh. Thought theyd of wanted to distance it from the old Top Gear as much as possible. Its just Chris Evans trying to be Jeremy Clarkson.
