Which part of me merely saying that " I'd be surprised if they did such-and-such, because my perception is that they seem to have hitherto avoided doing exactly that" is not clear?

The part where you failed to say you meant they'd never done it before with an abbreviated name, which you only stated when we gave a list of examples where they had done it with a station name.

Next question?

ITN News: UTV Live is not any more confusing...

I still don't see this being an obstacle to ITV News UTV Live.

What is it with people "responding" to something other than what I ever actually sodding well said?

You made the observation that, in the past, ITV has seemingly avoided any name/brand/title where 'ITV' has been followed by another three-letter-abbreviation such as HTV, CTV etc and that you'd be "surprised" if ITV were to proceed with a programme name that included both 'ITV' and 'UTV'.

I responded by quoting you on this point and stating that I didn't see this (i.e., having two three-letter-abbreviations in a programme name) as an obstacle to ITV implementing 'ITV News UTV Live' as the programme title.

I think ITV News UTV Live sounds terrible. They'll keep it as UTV Live surely.

ITV News Granada etc etc sounds fine so I could see the sense in keeping those names.

If the UTV name is ever dropped it should be ITV News Northern Ireland. The U is short for Ulster but that was dropped in 93 so don't think they'll do a U-turn.

It's not ITV News Granada though, it's "ITV News Granada Reports". I.e. taking the original name of the programme and adding the ITV News brand.

This seems to be turning into a pointless discussion, about something very un-important in the greater context of this rebrand,

I defer to your judgement of pointless discussion.

Its getting to a point of whether or not UTV live will appear on ITV new titles or not, its going around and around and around. its not moving forward, Wink

Interesting that the new idents to be filmed in NI will be adapted and shown across the network, so presumably they'll be very in keeping with the current ITV style (as would be expected).

Surely one piece of meaningless 'Art College video' is much the same as another, when you just slap on some 'background colour selecting' logo and call it a channel ident?

The dog in the kitchen sink, or someone walking up a flight of steps is as relevant to NI as it is to anyone else in the UK.

Many companies change branding policies and go from one extreme to the other. Firstgroup being one who have gone from trying to get as many F logos as possible on their trains to now not using their brand at all in the case of GWR.
...and Hull Trains, which replaced the First F with a heart a few years ago.

I suspect it will all be signed off by London. Which means if it'll be used pan network, the new UTV logo will work in such a way that current ITV idents can be adopted.

Question is how long 'UTV Creative' survives, given some of the things it's pumped out recently.

Creating a version of the ITV logo spelling UTV would never happen, has anything like that ever happened with anything?

Carlton having Central's cake and eating it is probably the obvious example.

I now have visions of a town crier screeching "This is Carlton, television for London.." ...sees a Central cake, wolfs it down, and continues smugly... "and the Midlands".

He's already suffering indigestion from swallowing a huge W.
