If there is a new look on Monday can people for once please start a new thread as the speculation ends and the screencaps begin - I guess one for UTV presentation and one for UTV News.
Just to add to the speculation I think most regions have launched the new studio with the Sunday bulletin rather than on Monday so a chance it could debut tomorrow, though if they do refresh the idents on Monday it would make sense to hold it back until then, if indeed it's happening. A good chance you could just get the generic look but just a tweaked version of the existing studio.
The more surprising thing about that is Julian doing the weather. Long term thing now, or cunning plan to keep him on screen when IVC goes?
That would make sense. Does he not do the weather much these days? He used to.
I don't know, since the advent of UTV Ireland I don't watch UTV NI a whole lot unless there is something (usually an England football international) I specifically tune in for.
In pre UTV Ireland days it used to be almost always Frank Mitchell any time I tuned in for the UTV weather - particularly on UTV Live at Six. When Julian did do the weather it was nearly always out of vision after a UTV Live summary.
Kinda takes him full circle I suppose, when he started with Ulster Television he did work with the news department quite a bit. When he did continuity in the 1980s he did it just like any other on screen announcer as I recall - the campness and the "But now on the You TV" stuff only crept in after 1993.
Julian has presented UTV weather forecasts in-vision on occasion since 2005 - as did the wonderful Robin Taylor until he left around the end of 2008.
You can usually see Julian, Gillian Porter or whoever did the continuity shift the previous evening, present the Good Morning Britain weather forecasts for the UTV area.
The UTV forecasts during the day are narrated out-of-vision as Frank's on U105 duty.
A good chance you could just get the generic look but just a tweaked version of the existing studio.
This would seem to make sense.
It is no secret that ITV plc are looking to relocate UTV to new premises as soon as is feasible. Albeit that may mean many many months.
Doesn't make much sense to have a swanky new set (especially one that involves seven UHD tellies - which are presumably fairly costly - like most other ITV plc regions already have), if the days at Havelock House are now numbered.
I'm sure that some sort of compromise re-using the current set would look fine for the time being. All ITV plc regions (except London) looked perfectly okay IMHO when they did this for an initial period from February 2004.
