Virtually all ads and presentation elements are filmed in HD. However, that doesn't mean that they will be played out in HD... Depending on the channel. And even if they are made and played in HD, that doesn't mean that there won't be noticeable differences in picture quality depending on which playout centre is transmitting them. It's quite likely that UTV playout and ITV playout are using different codecs on their files.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. I remember seeing something earlier this year about ITV now taking ads in HD, but wasn't sure how many were actually filmed in HD.

Its pretty clear to me, unlike STV who does care about its TV operations, UTV didn't.

It seems to me that STV is a considerably larger company than UTV, and has more money to spend.

Under the circumstances, different priorities need to be decided.

In fact, I'd argue that STV doesn't, and never did, care about its presentation output. It was always, after YTV, the most staid and boring presentation on the network.

I thought UTV was larger, at least until the last year or so.

I don't agree that STV never cared about its presentation. It did the job as all of the ITV regions did at the time. Now, with the Dixon Baxi idents, STV has the best idents they've ever had. They've also recruited for a team to help with a new playout system, so they are certainly investing for the future.

Since the switch, SD adverts have become the minority on ITV HD.

To be honest I've not seen STV continuity in a very long time. Maybe it's time I took another look. It was bland in the late 2000s last I took any notice though.

STV ramped up its pres around 2010, especial with its weekend promos. TV live has a good selection: http://www.tvlive.org.uk/tv-presentation/itv/stv/stv-2009-2014/special-presentation2009-2014/

Adverts, on screen graphics and end boards on UTV have always been in SD and if they are in HD, they look piss-poor. It's another example of the shockingly low quality UTV viewers have been subjected to over the years. don't even get me started on the UTV Live logo or the background with no less than 6, yes 6, lens flare graphics moving around behind it to give it some "pizzaz" Rolling Eyes

This is what happens when you try to save some £££

You can get away with more stuff when it's SD but when the quality isn't great it is echoed in HD.

There's new stuff coming so it's all going to look great shortly Very Happy

UTV Live coming up segment was in front of a green screen tonight. It'll be interesting to see where the programme comes from.
