Gary Glitter appears on the Jive Bunny Christmas single. Not sure if it made No. 1 though.

And are there any wronguns in either Mersey Aid or Band Aid II in 1989?

tI've seen that Jive Bunny video played on music channels loads of times down the years (including last year), complete with GG intact! Yes, it did make number one.

BBC4 have always left his photo in the chart countdowns too when he's been in the chart.

In the 1985 episodes we got a very dodgy edit of The Crowd as well, only seeing about 20 seconds of it, as Rolf Harris and DLT were in there. Not sure why they only showed such a short clip when neither of them even appear until about half way into the video, so they could have shown the first half of the video quite easily instead. Then they left them in when a clip of them was shown during a video top 10 a few weeks later anyway. They can be quite inconsistent.

Getting even further ahead, Jimmy Savile appeared in Peter Kay's Amarillo video in 2005, though that's way ahead of thinking BBC4 will get anywhere near that far.

I always felt sorry for Sally Lindsay from Corrie for "Amarillo", as she was the one who drew the short straw as far as the Jewellery Rattler was concerned & has been subject to Amarillo airbrushing by innocent association ever since

The original unfettled video is still on Tony Christie's YouTube page strangely enough, though all the times I've seen it on music channels since 2012 it's had the snip...

It's pretty easy to edit out the offending footage from the Amarillo video, they showed it on Peter Kay's Comedy Shuffle and honestly you wouldn't know it's edited (apart from the song being slightly shorter)

Mersey Aid in 1989 features stills of laid flowers, mostly at Liverpool's stadium but I assume also at Sheff Weds and Notts Forest's grounds, with a ticker of the (then 95*) victims scrolling across. There's no artists in vision. I don't know whether any of them are disgraced however.

*The Hillsborough death toll didn't become 96 until the early 90s when a victim's machines were turned off following a coma of several years.

Presumably if a disgraced artist is Number 1 that also means the episode gets skipped. I think the next one is Rolf going to the top with Stairway to Heaven?

Rolf got to No7 with his cover of Stairway To Heaven in February 1993, so an easy edit. Having said that, he has served a long prison sentence and paid the price and as far as I'm concerned if he appeared it would not bother me.

Who wants a taboo Savile edition? Here's the pre Christmas one from 20th December 1973 with Savile as a Womble recently uploaded. Unsure how widely it's been seen but I never have. I began watching it last night thinking it was a straightforward show only to find that Savile's opening link at the start of the show after the countdown gets stopped, because from what I can make out it seems there was no audience behind him and they had all crowded in front, then Golden Earring begin doing Radar Love and suddenly stop for unknown reasons, then do a retake. A couple of other out takes too. Quite fascinating to see it like that. Unsure if it was the producer Robin Nash with Savile at the first fluffed link. It almost looks quite amateurish actually, and Savile is his usual semi-detached self.

I'm sure there's a story that Jimmy actually got up to some of his "antics" while dressed as a womble- presumably during the filming of thie episode?

This is true, however JS was never convicted or even faced trial: everything he's done technically remain allegations (although as he is very much planted he cannot be defamed.) Glitter also served his time first time round, but he was airbrushed out as well. Infact I was tasked with editing Rock N Roll Xmas out of a DMC-style Christmas Megamix for a switch-on fireworks display hosted at the radio station I worked for at the time.

Where do you draw the line?
