When you listen to all of the old clips on TV-Ark, most of the voices you hear (up until the late 90s) are middle-aged people. Broadcasters seem to hold the view that older voices will alienate younger people - but in my view, younger voices who are trying to be your "friend" or who are trying to sound "hip" will alienate them more.

On Central it was Graham Rogers i thought it was odd they just had the ident normally used for the news but he did say ITV 1 Central .Do the other regions use the news or celeb idents into regional programmes?.

Meridian uses the regional celeb idents (we seem to have more than most other regions), but oddly no brand name, neither ITV1 nor ITV1 Meridian, ever seems to be mentioned over these idents.

I have noticed on Yorkshire they show the news ident too or just show a local promo then go into the regional programme.

They do that before Calendar, I believe most ITV1 regions in England don't show an ident at 6pm.

The idents featuring Christine Talbot and Duncan Wood or Duncan Wood on his own are usually used into regional programmes at other times

At least you have local celeb idents! Granada only seem to get the normal ITV1 ones (ie without Granada on screen) or we get the Philip Scofield one that has been shown about a million times, thank god they are getting rid of them next week!

But Granada also got the regional announcement and it was a woman who I hadn't heard before saying that was the last Daytrippers and next week there will be a new series of Go North West and wait for it....on Granada!

Where did the habit of not using an ident before regional news originate? Meridian's done that for many years.

Well Calendar had been doing it for a while but then when continuity went national all the regions got the most crappest dullest announcement ever heard, something like "Watching Yorkshire on ITV1. With Tonight's.... Calendar"
The regions probably didn't want that sort of dross in front of the flagship news programme so everyone dropped it. They reinstated it back in Feb but the announcers probably found it too much like hard work so quickly stopped doing it.

I mean, who started this trend way back in time? Meridian's shown no ident before the regional news since the mid-90s, and surely they weren't the first?
