Confused Not really sure why this thread exists. I think all of these non-subject specific threads are a bad idea as you can't tell what they're talking about without reading through them.

Why don't we just have one thread on TV Forum called 'TV presentation'!!! Wink

I know I don't have to read it, but I am interested in TV pres in Wales and am probably missing some bits and pieces through not reading the thread.

I think you should split it up a bit. Especially if you're going to be the 4th Mod Jamez!

Well this thread is quite handy for quick comments on Wales Today and HTV News. This thread can get away with little comments that wouldn't really qualify for a thread of their own.

My thoughts exactly. Wales has a unique set up with respect to BBC channels, ITV region, 4th channel, and digital BBC TWO, and so I created a Wales thread.

It's a thread that *I* started, so I'm not sure if appealing to Jamez to do something about it if he becomes moderator is exactly appropriate. If you're expecting Jamez to just do away with threads he doesn't think he understands or follows [as you say you don't], I'm sure you'll be disappointed, as that's not really how it works is it? And especially not one he does understand and participates in.

2W on its own wouldn't be a worthy thread, nor would S4C~ really, and even an HTV News and Wales Today thread fell off the end once. I created this thread on the day of the reopening of the forum for all presentation questions and discussion relating to Wales. As such I think it's one of the oldest threads on the forum, and it's never received a bad comment so far. If there were 6 threads on each of the different things, then I think the forum would become littered with threads amounting to one or two posts only, that would be pointless and irritant. So I don't accept your comment.

I have to say I really don't understand your point. This thread is about presentation in Wales. And that's more or less it -- hence it's very hard to get off topic, and I don't think it's hard to keep up with what's going on -- it moves at a leisurely pace to be honest. I'm sorry if my digression into Ruth Wignall offended you, but I'm a human being with feelings and it's what crossed my mind. Ruth has been discussed before many times and I'm not a robot, just talking about presentation, idents, chairs, astons and 53-page BBC threads all the time -- I happen to think the real people behind the television are also relevant.

Juliet Piper was back presenting the 6pm bulletin this evening -- nice to see her return after a while away with The Ferret.

And, *sigh*, after BBC ONE, ITV-1, Five, 2W, MTV, News 24, most of the UK channels on digital, S4C~ seems now to have moved towards people idents too, for the evenings.. Rolling Eyes

Don't know who this is, and I only captured it last minute, but you get the idea.
But at least S4C~ have caught up with the menu run-down idea finally.

They've not abandoned the dragon idents entirely [although more than half of them remain no longer used -- and the better ones at that], but I think S4C~ are stripping their schedule a little bit more now, and using menus and stuff. At least trying to as much as you can when your flagship soap is on at a different time each day. I think at prime time they are using people ones, but to be honest I haven't seen *any* S4C~ since I posted that -- I'll have a look tomorrow, but I know 2W have gone the way of people idents, but no music. They're nice though and suit the channel. S4C~ need to change their trail endboards though..

DAY 23

And Monday [today] marks two weeks since further DNA tests were ordered on the samples from the whippet [deceased], killed by big cat, which is how long they said it would take. So I'm expecting some news from this evening's programmes...

And South West Wales now has its own pages on the BBC website [like North East before it], and there's a cat discussion [trust me, living in Carmarthenshire is boring, what else is there to do?]

And there's even Big Cat Advice which tells you what to do if you see him. Apparently, you're not to run, or to make eye contact. But, you're encouraged to jump up and down and shout [presumably so that cat dies laughing]. You are to "act human" -- Jeez, that's a challenge, and walk away talking to yourself. Don't follow him either. Spoilsports.

I didn't become moderator - I was beaten by an American. I suppose it's slightly better than being bombed by one... Rolling Eyes

Yeah well, they don't get wild cats out in America do they? Ha! [What? They do, oh right.. Ummm...]

Threads as trivial and disjointed as this one I'm sure won't even get any attention, let alone any moderation.. Cool
Would anyone like a pancake?

For anyone who watches HTV News West [Ok, it's a long shot], isn't this the background they use for picture graphics etc?

http://members.lycos.co.uk/tindragon/HTVPicture270103.jpg

It was used on tonight's Welsh HTV News, with regards a boy who was set alight on Halloween. Do the two news centres have access to each others' graphics? What was the point I wonder, the rest of tonights stuff used the normal graphics.

The person in that ident is Helen Rosser-Davies... she plays Sarra in "Pobol y Cwm".
I think these new idents are temporary as all the characters say "Wela'i chi'n hwyrach" ("See you later") in them - in order to promote the showing of the soap at a later time. They shouldn't last long once the new schedule settles down.

Well its got the HTV news (wales) dog in the corner rather than the oval htv news (west) dog

Also the HTV News (west) is broadcast in widescreen at 18:00 so i wonder if HTV News (wales) could go widescreen aswell - especially if UTV are already doing it?

I know it has the Welsh HTV News DOG! LOL, that's clear. I'm just saying they borrowed the West's background for the image from a Welsh story, which is perplexing.

HTV News West and Anglia News aren't in proper widescreen, they are cropped, like most [but not all] English BBC regional programmes. Newsline is in proper 16:9 though, as it made the switch last year, but is cropping the ITV News shown on UTV.

The HTV News preview at 17:30, where Jonathan tells you what's coming up at 6 is a similar job, notice the black bars then. It looks rather nice then, as does the wide shot of the studio of Jonathan and Lucy at 17:57 before the ad break into the news, but again it's not true 16:9.

GMTV bulletins for HTV West and Anglia are presented in 4:3 most of the time. I think they are from a different studio, but they still have a desk [unlike say, Granada or Grampian].
