It’s hard to see where Channel 4 go from here - let the current series run it’s course and then bin it, or stick with it and hope it grows.
With such low numbers from the off, I just don’t see its viewing figures growing into an audience that makes the channel a profit.
Steph is a perfectly good host, but it’s a tough market and sadly I don’t think she’s the big draw Channel 4 thought she was.
If not a business format, why not try a show aimed at the LGBT audience?

I think making a show aimed solely at LGBT audiences would cause figures to drop even further!
It also makes no sense to think Steph would be willing to present such a show considering the efforts she makes to keep her personal life away from the public eye and the inevitable headlines it would create.

Just give her a Watchdog style consumer format in daytime and it'd be fine on the premise that she gets to film at least 4 docs per season in peak.

That would definitely put more of a C4 spin on a daytime format, but the problem is you’d need a much bigger production team to make that work. Plus all the lawyers and compliance and other pre-filming. Whereas the current ahem format doesn’t require all that. (Not then mention C4 have already successfully reinvented the consumer format with Joe Lycett).

Worth pointing out I wasn’t suggesting Steph specifically should host a LGBT based show, I have no idea what sexuality Steph is, it was more of a suggestion for the slot more widely.

It’s an interesting idea based on her previous role on Breakfast but she did read Science Communication and Policy at university so maybe something along those lines.
They had James Martin last week too.
Going back to the idea a business programme would have been a viable alternative I bet the Sky News show was probably getting the same sort of figures before it moved to mid-morning.

Wouldn't "the channel 4 spin" on daytime be to just nick 'This Morning' lock, stock and barrel from ITV?
This Morning seems to be increasingly tailoring itself to every "Karen" on facebook. Their gas lighting topical debates are starting to feel like TalkRadio on TV and I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if Alex youknowwho started popping up on there before too long. The most obvious route for Channel 4 to have gone down would have been a 'Black This Morning'. There must be a sizable black daytime audience who are looking for an alternative This Mornings white nonsense.

The over tabloidsation of TM is one of the reasons I no longer watch.
However I don't think targeting a morning show at one minority group is going to help that slot. C4 know they could stick on old repeats and it'd increase the share in that slot, but this show only has one reason for being commissioned and that's to increase production from the north of England as C4 moves up to Leeds. If anyone watches it is a bonus.
