Forgive my ignorance, but having just tuned in I can see very few changes- the straps are red/white only, but everything else seems the same....was this a Sunrise only change?

I must say that as much as I hate the "slug strap" look, its only benefit was that when you saw white and red together on screen, you immediately thought "breaking news"....that brand definition now seems diluted with white/red straps saying "football" on etc.

Well, the visual changes are:

Arrow New ident and titles, with matching new globe graphics on stings and the newswall

Arrow New straps, all in red and white and always the same size (except for Breaking News) This includes a new style massive strap for 'Top Stories' and 'Coming Up' which does animate quite nicely and doesn't look too bad.

Arrow The straps animate differently from before, with text fading in and flying out. (Also, remember that rumour about the slug going upside down, well it is when it animates in so perhaps they were trying it out and decided against - look out for it at the start of a two-way)

Arrow A ticker that doesn't tick (!) for use during times when the ticker isn't on.

Arrow A new blue swirly background replacing the old white one. Also, a red top bar for newspaper.

Arrow New dull sports graphics including a hideous one I just saw for the tennis which looked like someone's first attempt at a website, all centred and rubbish.

...and I think that's it, right? (apart from really small things like the weather map being shrunk in Sunrise to make way for the non-ticker and the content changes like half of Sunrise coming from the newsroom)

Thanks for that summary...I''ve just found these pages of caps at "Sky News Centre" for those who missed that rather odd "static ticker"

Why do I get the impression that, no matter what they change at Sky News, those awful old weather graphics will always stay the same...!

Well I'm quite disappointed in all honesty. I do like the top of the hour ident but I really think they could have been far more adventurous with the astons etc.

That "static ticker" isn't going to stay on screen right through to the start of tomorrow's Sky News today is it?

It is starting to look that way isn’t it!! How long have they been using the weather graphics?? Is it since the 1998 relaunch?

well the only thing i like is the way the TOTH cut into the studio with that shine.. the titles are good - i would still like to see a different way of representing different programmes...

could have been a bit more imaginative with the graphics.

This opener was somewhat confusing.

The TOTH titles were the old ones, with no changes to the headline sequence, then the sting into the two presenter shot was new...

IIRC the 6am TOTH titles are played out by TX, to provide five with a clean opt-in to Sunrise, so it looks like TX were not given the new titles.

The new titles look OK, although it does look weird how the UK rotates away from the camera at the last part of the titles.

The graphics...oh dear. Seems they are copying News 24 (a first, surely?) by using these massive Top Story and Coming Up graphics. They also now have the same problem as News 24, which is that their is little difference between normal and breaking news graphics. Red and white used to mean breaking news, and red and blue was normal graphics, not any more. News 24 has had the best graphics IMO since its Dec 2003 relaunch, and that is still the case now.

I'm not sure if Illusion can have a new graphics set even though it uses templates...

You might have to wait until the move is finished.

Nice title graphics, but the music dosen't fit in well at all, the Sky News lingers on for too long before it fades out, astons well they haven't changed much, nice Sunrise presentation though!
