I'm talking about Sky News... obviously.

There have been a lot of complaints about the new graphics and Sky have totally ignored the viewers and carried on regardless. I don't pay £30+ a month to be ignored and treated as though my opinions don't matter. I wouldn't mind if Sky would actually reply to emails, at least then people would know if they are planning to keep these graphics. They have just entirely forgotten about the fact that the viewers are the people who keep them in business and if they ignore the viewers then they aren't doing themselves any favours.

Oh yes I forgot the great logo protests of November 2001 when thousands of people descended on Isleworth demanding that Sky News changes their graphics because 'they didn't like them'.

Just how many viewers have actually complained about the new look, not many I bet. I would say that they are going to keep the graphics, otherwise they wouldn't have started using them in the first place!

If you don't like them, then watch News 24 or ITN.... the choice is there

Oh for heaven's sake grow up.

There have been plenty of complaints about the graphics, both on here and emailed to Sky.

As someone has pointed out in another thread, they are planning a few changes and whilst you may treat the opinions of people will little respect, it matters to me. I'd be going out of my way to change them if I'd put them to air. People just do not like them.

The idea that they wouldn't put them to air if they didn't intend on keeping them is a bit odd. In that case we'd still have the graphics from 1989. They put the previous graphics to air for just a few months. They need to accept that they've made a balls up and start again.

>look, they could pass it off as their own idea, or say it appeared >out of thin air for all i care.
Martin, the point is that it doesn't matter to them that it doesn't matter to you whether you get any recognition for it. A post in a forum is not a legally binding statement that you have given up all rights to your work. They look very nice, but they wouldn't dare to use them without giving you recognition for them or without getting you to legally give up the rights to them so they wouldn't have to pay you. Neither of those things will happen, because that would cost money - money they don't want to pay.

>The important thing for me is, i made a design idea, they >accepted it, and they like it...
You don't know that they accepted or liked them. I wouldn't be surprised if you never hear from them again.

I know you want to be the next Martin Lambie-Nairn, and there's nothing wrong with that, but do it properly, build your reputation up by doing small freelance work and then one day maybe you will have your own design house and be making things for Sky. But don't get hung up on the thought that if you keep emailing them logos they'll start using them

I started by doing freelance, then through contacts got a job at an RSL and then moved on from there from meeting and working people.

The other thing to do is get to know what kind of software/hardware that's used.  Flash is rarely used for any design work in television.  Ok it's used for a couple of titles and those cheesy catchphrase graphics, but I can't see anyone, not even MLN using it to design a BBC logo!

Being the next MLN isn't as easy as just tweaking a logo, or tweaking Sky graphics jsut so you like them, if it was - design would be so much easier to get into.  People get paid to come up with new ideas, not just tweak them (although that happens too) Smile

They way you lot are acting, its as if i have done something wrong

I wasn't saying your doing anything wrong, although it may have been taken that way.

The work I do is probably where you would want to work, and merely offering advice from someone who was once at your stage!

Well i think SKYsports is on its way to going corporate.

One of their latest 2002 trailers makes use of the bold corporate font.

What I was getting at is that you are assuming that loads of people have complained to Sky just because you've seen some online and a few people you know have sent them off.

The only people who know how many complaints there have been are Sky.

There aren't, as you seem to make out, loads of people complaining about the graphics as 99% of their viewers couldn't give a toss.
