Hopefully we see something similar on the BBC soon or maybe another tribute on Channel 4 tomorrow.

I really hope they honour him by bringing back the old 2s for a day

God no - we'll end up stuck with them for 4 years.

The greatest tribute is actually the curves - they hark back to his work of 1991 more than any other ident set has over the last 20 years.

P.S. Good to see C4 pay tribute.

I think that the bladed 2 is far better than the Curve idents, but I respect your opinion!

Don’t think the man ever did a single piece of bad design. A giant.

y’know, I’ve just realized: the guy hasn’t really had a good connection with ITV
like, he’s only done work for 3 franchises, and one of them is universally disliked

i wonder why this is?

I’m not sure that’s true at all. The current ITV News branding is a Lambie-Nairn creation. He’s worked on various programmes as well, including a past rebrand of This Morning, and, as was mentioned earlier, was instrumental in creating Spitting Image.

I honestly think it's rather saddening news, the person who had helped many channels, including the BBC and TF1 in France, will not be forgotten by many and I hope Channel 4 at least pays respect by playing the '1982' ident again, even if it means it's been 4-5 times this year because of Bake Off's 80s theme.

R.I.P Martin Lambie Nairn, may your graphics impress even the angels above.

I never knew that Lambie-Nairn created the logo of TF1

Yes, let's hope their upcoming 2021 rebrand won't change this iconic symbol of French television.

So you've heard about it too!

I'm personally excited to see what they'll do - whether it be evolution or revolution...

...not to mention several ITN projects, including his overhaul of the corporate brand (and ITV bulletins) between 1994-1995, as well as coming up with the famous "NEWS at TEN" logo and Big Ben sequence in the late '60s

I want to post something more substantial when I've gathered my thoughts, but in the meantime may I share this wonderful tribute by Transdiffusion which talks about a few of the traits that made Martin's work special:

It's survived previous rebrands so I suspect it'll live on.

Surprising BBC News didn't mention his BBC News work.

Yes, I'm very excited! So hyped (as the kids say) for January 5th's press conference.
Just hope it's not too big of a change as this logo that Martin created has become one of the most well-known logos in France.

Martin Lambie-Nairn had sold Lambie-Nairn and left the company before they tackled ITV News and This Morning.

I still get a bit irritated that people call them "symbols" rather than idents, but it was nice to see a small tribute.
