I think it could be a hoax, as his description bears an uncanny resemblance to MDTA's ITV1 mock.

But then mdta's mock bears a striking resemblance to the sort of soulless, blue and yellow crap ITV are so fond of showering us with.

not to denigrate mdta's work of course, believe it or not, I actually mean that your mock was a very good one - albeit of an evil and unnecessary thing

Hmm, yes, and CraigV gave a lot of information on the generic ITV1 Xmas ident.

The one good thing that could come out of this is the eventual closure of the Leeds broadcast centre -- then at least we in the North might just get some *good* continuity from London. Let's face it, if Leeds does go totally generic, there's little point in keeping the centre at Leeds -- just move the whole lot out.

Or they could move ALL continuity to Leeds! http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/shocked.gif

Noooooooooooooooo!!!!! Sad

Who'd have thought it, a centre that only came into being because the ITC were not happy with the way YTV were running TTTV's continuity (Channel TV-style dirty feed from Leeds overlayed badly by Newcastle) would end up being the dominant centre in the network. Nightmare...

Thank you for your e-mail.

As far as we are aware, there are no plans for the videowall to be shown for
the last time on 6 January.

Kind regards

So looks like LWT are not adopting GMG Generic http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I think in the meantime this is a hoax, and whilst there might be new look ITV1 generics in the new year, the regions are here to stay for the time being.

However - one day I can see ITV1 becoming national, but with regionally setup news centers, just like the BBC Regional News, and ITV1 will be a national network just like the other channels. Whilst digital satelite continues to dominate the 'next generation' of television delivery platforms to the home, national networks, like it or hate it, will be the way to go.

I don't know when the current ITV region franchises are due to end - all I will say is when they do, just don't be surprised if something happens were we end up with a national 'ITV1', just like ITV2 and the ITV Sports Channel.

They would say that though, I couldnt see them giving anything away.

I can`t see LWT taking these generics on anyway, in fact I still think its a hoax although there are too many things happened recently that fit in with what this guy said.
And if it does happen I will just watch a non Granada region, simple as that

It will happen, if not in January then within the next couple of years anyway.

In a sense it'll be the right thing for Granada to do. It is patently obvious to anyone with half a brain cell that Granada have no commitment to their regional responsibilities whatsoever , and therefore to keep up the pretence that they do by keeping the branding of their stations is dishonesty of the purest kind. At least by changing to itv1 they are coming clean, and admitting to the world that they are not a public service broadcaster, and never will again be a public service broadcaster. That's not melodrama, that's fact.

hmm, i must admit im sceptical, but its certainly not a stupid suggestion, consifering the xmas ident.

obviously its a bad move, but then again it happened to central and westcountry. apart from anything else, it raises questions about the nature of independant television. the reason itv was created in regional blocks, was to avoid giving 1 company undue influence - and to maintain impartiality. the gvt seem to be activey encouraging a merger into 1 company - so does that mean they're no longer interested in impartiality, media production throughout the country?

i think dtt is to blame for the demise of itv - sort of contributed to central's demise, and it seems the gvt will turn a blind eye to single company status, if itv speed up the analogue switch off.

which begs the question, who matters more, the viewers and tv workers around the country, or the treasury coffers (from use of released spectrum) - and it also seems that the gvt are worried about european broadcasters taking a slice of itv - as the gvt are powerless to prevent inter-eu ownership

i hope the rumours are false anyway

Still Central and Westcountry may be returning. Wasn't there a rumour flying about that it was just one man who'd introduced the Carlton brand across all the regions and now he's left (which is why HTV didn't get Carltonised) so you never know.

Also, I think that Carlton would do the opposite of Granada out of sheer bloody-mindedness!

Thank God that it looks like LWT are planning to stick up two fingers at Leeds, I also think that if this does go ahead LWT may ditch ITV1 altogether because GMG tried to force it on them.

So London may be safe at least! Wink
