I'm sure there was a Popstars The Rivals 5pm show as well though I can't see a mention of it on the Wiki page for it. I can remember that being where Nicola found out she was going to be in the live shows after all as the person she was replacing pulled out too late to show in the main series.

Funnily enough Kimberly was also initially eliminated from the competition before being brought back.

There were loads of those in that series, of course one of the boys announced live on air that he'd been lying about his age throughout and he didn't actually qualify for the series. There was at least one occasion where they had a "Special Edition" in the schedules on a Sunday night, billed as "the latest developments from the Popstars house" which turned out to be about someone else pulling out.

The ultimate example of the spin-off shows, as has been mentioned here before, was Pop Idol Extra alongside the second series in 2003, which was on every afternoon for three hours!

If they are doing the trial the same night and then waiting for the food, cooking it and eating it and leaving gaps in between for all the (bush) telegraph bits, they must be staying up until 2am

And then basically nothing happens from the time they wake up until 10pm at night

I don't get why they can't do the trial the next morning. Is it purely for the turnaround of the edit?

Because the presenters and all the 'main show' crew are all on-site and after the show go straight on to record the trial, just like in Australia. They can finish up at 2 or 3am and go to bed. I'm guessing that they start work again around midday? Meanwhile the footage can be transferred back overnight to London so the editing of the previous day and trial can start first thing in the morning. Because of the different working hours, it doesn't leave much time for golf...

As well as the technical reasons, I suppose it would mess up the timeline of the show

However many meals for camp they win, they wouldn't be having that meal until the following day's evening, meaning it couldn't be included in the show until the next day

The timeline did feel a bit messed up. That bit at the start of the show where they were doing the workout. Was that on Sunday evening or after the trial? Then the trial was 15 minutes later than usual in the episode. And was that food that they ate at the end of the episode from Sunday or Monday?

It looks to me that everything we saw today was from yesterday including the Castle Coin Challenge as they referenced not getting the welsh cakes when they were making their dinner

That might get a bit confusing when the evictions start and they could then in theory still appear throughout the next day’s programme

I liked the slip up about a visit from the police, a classic example of how Ant and Dec can turn a slip up entertaining.

The timeline thing isn't helped by the fact there is no show on Saturday now. Unlike Love Island, the castle doesn't need to be cleaned out every week.

Well maybe it does this series. I suspect they might do a bigger daytime Bush Tucker Challenge on the Saturday to film for the Sunday show.

I think we've already lost a day as they arrived on Friday night so I think Mondays show was a hybrid of Saturday and Sunday footage.

The new arrivals turning up tomorrow feels *really* early but looking at past series the average has always been 3-5 days

Hour long shows feel a bit tight to pack enough in to get to know the celebs, although it was quite fun tonight to see Vernon have a mini game of Family Fortunes Very Happy

Also clearly he’s been watching Gino’s version as one of the questions he asked was on that. It may have featured on his version too, but I imagine seeing it on the new version was why it was fresh in his mind.

Apparently they eat at 1 or 2AM so this makes more sense:

So they did the Castle Coin challenge during the day, then hey did the trial around 12am and ate around 2am. That makes more sense.

I watched the clip of this Gino episode last night on YouTube so I got very confused when Vernon also did the "What do you put in your mouth but don't swallow".

The answer given by the girl on Family Fortunes is bleeped out... Embarassed
