Imagine how appealing a non-news based breakfast show would have been in the last few years.

Greg James seems my go-to breakfast choice these days - it's not news based but it's a much better way to start the day than Breakfast or GMB. Plus despite the Newsbeat bulletin being a Newsbeat bulletin (i.e. dumbed down), from that alone you probably get a more comprehensive look at the news than on GMB.

I have not listened to Radio 1 Breakfast Show in years - I must try it tomorrow morning.

It's a good listen and so is Matt and Mollie, and I'm not just saying that as I was on it over Christmas Wink

I do wish there was a third alternative to BBC Breakfast and GMB - this morning I really wanted to throttle Piers Morgan, who was his usual ass hole self, enjoyable at times, but off putting during interviews, where you are just waiting for him to interject and cause mayhem - over on the BBC it is reliable, but just a pure snooze fest, where you are in danger of falling back asleep again.

I would like Channel 4 to come up with some sort of alternative, which is not meant to be a ratings hit, but would at least bring something different to the breakfast schedules. They had The Channel 4 Daily, The Big Breakfast, RI:SE - they could pull something together, cheap and cheerful.

If they just added a 60 second news bulletin a couple of times a morning and perhaps refreshed the comedies a little, that would be a good start. Market it as a fun way to start you day.

Well there's sky news

Kay Burley at Breakfast - sweet Satan no!!!

At first glance, it seemed okay to watch in full, but then, when they were airing the sob story interview of Ian Austin and repeated it on loop for a whole half hour, it was agonizing and manipulative to watch.

Today’s revised introduction was much better. I think it’s fine to drop “From ITV” when there’s a giant logo on screen! Just need to fix the intonation when saying Charlotte’s name.

Loving the roundup headline bed at 6am - particularly the dah-dah bit (I somehow doubt that’s the technical name). Very nice.

For some reason when I saw Charlotte in front of the big screen I had flashbacks to the Six-pack of News Laughing

It'll be interesting to see if this is the master stroke for creeping further towards Breakfast's ratings - a tight first half hour with news/sport/weather/local news. Effectively very similar to Breakfast. But still with the noisiness of an (even more awake) Piers for the rest of the programme.

There's lots of alternatives, it's called Radio! And is still the most popular broadcast platform at breakfast time, despite over 35 years of breakfast telly.
Give it a go, it's great, and you can do things such as drive a car, or clean your bog while consuming it

The news headlines on the ill-fated Channel 4 show RI:SE were initially called the six pack of news.

Hoping you mean consuming the radio rather than your bog. Each to their own but not sure I’d recommend it!

The comments aren’t very positive regarding Ben’s twitter post. Bored to death of BBC Breakfast I find it unwatchable these days I think Dan is way out of his depth. It’s incredibly boring and stale! The couch is falling to bits and their guests are of extremely poor quality. GMB s***s all over it in my opinion much more variety and they’re not afraid to try new things.
