No clock as of I'm not sure how many seconds into the second half of Cameroon vs Croatia.

It appeared 1:15 into the half.

Jeez. Give it all to the BBC, no clock for 1:15 on ITV!

That was just a presentation observation, not a criticism. I'd have pointed the same thing out if it had been on the BBC scorebar. In fact I've commented more about things that displease me with the BBC graphics than ITVs. I also think Adrian Chiles is a very watchable football presenter. So there is no anti-ITV vendetta from me.

Please go back to Digital Spy if you're going to react to posts like that when there is a genuine television presentation point.

Nobody does punditry quite like RTE.

It's still better than watching Adrian Chiles.

P.S. We know Adrian Chiles is the first lead presenter to do two World Cups for ITV in quite some time, but how many has Matt Smith done as the second presenter. I'm sure he was there when Des Lynam was number 1.

This is only the second occasion where Matt Smith has been the second presenter and done live games at a World Cup. Although he joined ITV in 2001, in 2002 he did highlights alone, with Des Lynam and Bob Wilson on the live games (and Gabby Logan in a totally redundant secondary role doing dreadful lighter-side-of-the-World Cup items) and in 2006 he was also only on highlights with Steve Rider, Gabby Logan, Jim Rosenthal and Angus Scott (doing the clashing matches on ITV4) on live games. He also did those highlights shows from London while the live games came from the grounds.

In fact in Euro 2004 he was England reporter and while he was secondary presenter in Euro 2008, they did all the coverage from London, so 2010 was the first time Smith had actually presented a live tournament match from the country in which it was taking place.

You would think if they can get Matt Smith down there they might as well get Chiles and co. in the stadium to anchor the broadcast. Surely as one of the broadcasters of the teams playing they're entitlted to sufficient in-stadium facilities for a live broadcast, even if that isn't a studio.

Well, they may not want to do that. I remember in 1998 ITV presented virtually every match from the grounds apart from England vs Argentina which they did from their Paris studio, and ITV said the reason for that was for reasons of quality control, presumably they felt the fans would be too high-spirited if they were there. They had Jim Rosenthal and Ian Wright in the stadium and I know Rosenthal had to keep stopping Wright arguing with the Argentinean fans next to him. Also, bit of a waste of time getting a fancy studio set up and then not using it for the match most people will watch.

Talking about Ian Wright another massive blow for ITV as he'd had to fly home. He's been really well recieved this World Cup from what I've seen too.

He was meant to be on the panel for last nights game and so why there was only two pundits. Hopefully O'Neil will replace him on tonight's England game but they might leave Andros Townsend in the studio now I guess.

Well if that was an issue they wouldn't have bothered doing most the other games from the ground. I remember thinking that studio was odd at the time as the studio featured two seperate desks one for the presenter and another for the pundits with a large gap between.

It also had a picture of the Paris skyline including the Eiffel Tower as it's backdrop didn't it? Thereby rather suffering in comparison to the BBC who had a rooftop studio with a window and a fantastic view of the real thing Smile

ESPN adopted their previous theme for the Brazil World Cup with a samba flair. Sounds pretty good IMO. Have a listen. Might be the last time they get to adopt as FOX Sport won the rights for the next world cup in Russia. I wonder how EPSN might have adopted the theme for Russia? Anyway have a listen:

Compare to the Lion King version for 2010 South Africa

I was actually referring to their studio in this World Cup in that bit.

Sorry read it wrong.

I imagine having a full studio set up at the grounds for just a couple of matches would be quite difficult logistically alongside the Rio set up. Most likely ITV will only be using two cameras in the stadium one for interviews and one for Matt Smith and friends.

Alan Hansen has arrived in Brazil. Guess the BBC wanted to try the first week without him to try things out for the future.
