As a passive, passenger viewer, I have to say I was surprised by the noticeable increase in production values during the first half of this year - interesting scene framings, transitions and use of sound.

Safe to say, it's all turned back to tat in the last few months (don't know if this has coincided with the extra ep?), shame.

Emmerdale seem to be the one who's been doing the best with production values- especially on special and big episodes. A perfect example of how you can get great looking drama without having to slap a film effect on it, virtually as far from the 70s studio bound costume drama look as you can get- a shame producers of other dramas aren't taking note!

I'm more inclined to complain about how ridiculous the whole storyline is.

We now see one of the problems of filming soaps weeks in advance of broadcast is this situation. Corrie will have to explain has absence if Christmas Eve he is there and then Christmas Day he vanishes.

Perhaps Eileen's turkey poisons him on Christmas Day Laughing

Axing characters/actors because of allegations certainly isn't new for Coronation Street - remember Len Fairclough/Peter Adamson (although that seemed a bit more convoluted at the time with a combination of slagging off fellow cast members to the gutter press and an incident at the local swimming baths which he denied then admitted then denied). Rolling Eyes
I can't recall anything like this for Crossroads or Emmerdale unless someone can jog my memory!

I always remember when Craig Charles was suspended, that was handled bizarrely- Lloyd vanished without a mention in the months he was away, as if he never existed, then suddenly re-appeared one episode as if he'd been there all along.

Ben Freeman left Emmerdale in 2006 after being accused of rape - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6170233.stm

He was later cleared.

Worth noting the Rovers fire of 86 will be on ITV3 tomorrow.

Today's episodes seem to have come from the Granada Plus copies (no frontcap, GSB endcap) which is annoying, as their repeats were edited.

Im loving the ITV3 episodes, the big Rovers fire tomorrow, an episode ive seen many times. But its great seeing the rest of 1986, not seen these episodes since late 2000 when Granada Plus aired them and i'm surprised how many of the smaller storylines and scenes ive forgotten.

When Alan Bradley was laying into Terry in the Rovers, a warning of what was to come in a few years. And Bet calling him a maniac, a sign of things to come for sure.

I was glad that Susan and Mike finally got married, I felt the storyline was going around in circles a bit by the end and Ken was at his worst during all that. And we were seeing it 5 times as fast as when it originally aired!

Re Bruno Langley - innocent until proven guilty. Ive never been a great fan of Todd to be honest.

Im not surprised there were so many complaints about Fridays episodes, to me it wasn't the Corrie we know and love. In fact in recent years its been so far removed from what Corrie was all about when it started.
