My favourite thing about the repeats is being able to observe the general styles and fashions of the time and how they evolve - granted it's not real life or people, but very much based on them and as close as we'll get to the era outside of the odd documentary.
Being born in 1988, it's interesting to try and pinpoint the moment where things start to look "normal" in a way I actually remember life being like - episodes from the start of the 1980s look like an entirely different world, whereas episodes from 1989 look almost how I remember my childhood if not quite yet. I'd say it's not until 1993-94 where things will get mostly recognisable, but someone born a decade later to me probably has to wait until the mid-noughties.
Odd seeing the "old" Rovers too as I've completely grown up with it's post-fire look. Episodes after the new one arrives should look much closer to the Corrie I remember my family watching in the mid-90s.
Watching things evolve is definately something I enjoy about watching this sort of thing. Another reason I'm so annoyed at Drama skipping 10 years of The Bill.
It was the fire episode today, two things I've always wondered about this episode. One as to why they did the location work for this episode on video, then went back to film for another 20 months?
And also why they had a unique title sequence for just this episode? I wonder if it was intended to be a permanent change, but they didn't really like it? It's not like the sequence stands out as having anything in particular to do with the episode itself. It's a pretty bland title sequence really. Some of the photos from that sequence did get used for the end credits on some episodes later in the 80s though.

I also noticed the non-standard title sequence, complete with electronic front/end caps. I think it was supposed to be views of early morning, to set the time for the events at the start of the episode (5:30am).
It wasn't just that, apparently they liked the unplanned shot of the pigeon flying in and landing on the top of the burnt out rovers, and extended the credits to keep it in.
I remember this being commented on in our house at the time, and my parents answer was that the normal titles had the pre-fire Rovers in them. Would make sense, but then what did they do for the next episode?

The pre-fire Rovers came back, and were still there until 1990.
Today's second episode had a "Colour Production" endcap too.
And the last 3 episodes have had electronically generated credits again. So we had 2 episodes with electronic credits, then 4 when they went back to a cromakeyed roller, then back to the electronic ones again, I presume for good now.
