Sky now has each slot saying ‘This is Channel 5’ or ‘This is Channel 5 HD’ on the Saturday but returns back to normal on the Sunday.

Saw that this morning. Maybe channel maintenance?

There is absolutely no chance that Channel 5 would go off air for a full day, let alone a Saturday in December when they have a full schedule of Christmas films and football. It will be an error or fault in the EPG source.

Indeed, that is suicide if that happened.

Common sense is needed for some posts.

E4 committed suicide for the 2015 election, so some channels actually do commit suicide. I'm not saying it will happen, but it MIGHT happen to Channel 5.

It won't.

There's a difference between marketing to get their demographic interested in voting, and pulling the plug of a channel for 'maintenance' during the busiest time of the year.

It was planned for PR. Maybe try and get some work experience in telly and you'll get the idea that a lot of these speculations look rather embarrassing.

I'm laughing at some of these barmy recent posts. I can't believe some people are seriously thinking the channel is coming off the air for the day or going through some mystery rebrand, just because the EPG has no data.

I think instead of Channel 5 it should be shortened to just five, just to save some breath. It didn't work before but maybe it was ahead of it's time.

In fact... vowels induce excessive mouth widening which could cause jowls in later life. Let's save on them and just call it 'fv'.

Well maybe... why bother with those letters either? Let's just leave the channel nameless as a unique edge and that would save the total inconvenience of a name for everybody!

My5 (the channel) is being rebranded as 5Prime from the 16th January and will offer "premium factual series" and new dramas and docs including the RTE drama Striking Out.

Lord knows why they thought it was a good idea to have the on demand service share the name with a linear channel.

Aren't they launching the Paramount Channel soon, which will also be showing drama?

Glad they are finally getting rid of the awkward situation of having a linear channel and an on demand service with the same name, however... 5Prime? What a terrible name!

Channel 5, 5USA, 5Star and 5Spike all have really clear remits but not so sure about 5Prime, it sounds a bit like More4?
